Feathers and Fins Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 My brother and I went out on some hot tips yesterday to Beaver Tail-Waters and then to Beaver Lake. The tail-waters were a breath of fresh air and soul healing I was much in need of after the last few weeks of work. Fishing was not red hot by any means but we did put a few nice trout to the boat using Black and Chrome Rapalas in 14 to 20ft of water, the walleye bite never materialized. But the scenery and trout made up for it along with a very nice 7lb bass. Beavers hot tips on stripers I am still scratching my head about. I think it wasn’t there because of very heavy boat traffic and some of the most discourteous boaters I have seen in years. I really wish Coast Guard and the Sherriff’s department would get out on the lake and start writing citations. Cabin Cruiser and Ski Boats running wide open less that 100 ft from people sitting in the water or trolling and swamping them were only a few of the things that need to stop. We did manage to put a nice mess of Hybrids and Whites and Numerous Bass to the boat. All the fish we found were in the back of coves and pockets in Cedar Trees, guess they were hiding from the dangerous boaters as well. I never did go check the Walleye reports on the rip-rap again because of the other boaters. I watched several of them blasting along that area and just felt it was to dangerous to run a boat close to the dam with that going on. It’s definitely summertime and I think I will adjust my fishing times to weekdays and late afternoon or early morning on Beaver. The weekend Warriors are out in force and just tends to make it less pleasure full when you are getting swamped or in my boats case rocked all over the place. Be safe out there and have fun. If you want to try for some fish start out at point 3 and work backs of creek arms any pockets and narrow coves and you should do decent working toward the dam and Indian Creek. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 It's not even Memorial weekend yet and it sounds like it is getting crazy out there. Temps are predicted to be in the 90's later this week, next weekend (Memorial Day) is probably going to be nuts! I'm thankful I can fish during the week when it's only about half crazy.
Quillback Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I should add, that I was walking the dam on Loch Lomond yesterday, the spitoon (pontoon boat) hatch has begun. Must have been a 1/2 dozen spitoons towing inflatables, or aimlessly going around in large circles creating wakes. With all the wave action, you could take your dirty laundry down to the dam, put some detergent on the clothes, lay them on the rocks at the water line and the waves created by the wakes would clean your clothes for you.
Stump bumper Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Really nice pics, the tailwaters are a nice getaway and in the summer a nice break fro the boaters. Every once in a while on a hot summer day there will be a ski boat or two run up to Houseman's and back but for the most part just fishermen not in a hurry and sharing fishing reports. It is tradition not to get on plane past the town of Beaver and ounce I learned that I got along with the locals a lot better. I can spend an entire day just watching the birds, beavers and mink along the tailwaters.
jeb Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I worked around the house all weekend trying to catch up on my RV and dirt bike maint. I live on the hill between Prarire Creek Cove and Avoca Cove. I could hear an almost constant stream of boat traffic both days. Which is why I was working on stuff around here instead of being out on the lake! Thanks for the report.
