9LB Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I was excited to see another option come into town. Bass Pro can be a little crazy and I am no fan of Wal Mart. Academy is no outdoors store it is a clothing store. They are sold out of everything, every time I stop in. I could not even find any 8 lb test line the last time I stopped in. Sinkers and red treble hooks - sold out. Beetle spins - sold out. Plum colored worms - sold out. They carry the SKU's but no inventory. I would not even waste the time to check here. It is probably sold out but they do have great runing shorts.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 There is a well kept secret in the Sporting retail business... If it says Sporting Goods or Outdoors it is NOT a true hunting and fishing store just a catch all warehouse to get everyone from soccer moms to would be fishermen to walk in. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members beagle man Posted May 21, 2012 Members Posted May 21, 2012 there is a real great alternate fishing type store in springfield,,, fin and feather,on south campbell south of bass pro, great little store great people working there, lots of good fishing advice too. 2861 south campbell
zarraspook Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Beagle man is spot on as for a "TRUE" fishing store... They carry the tackle that THEY and their customers use on "local' lakes..... "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
eric1978 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 The best fishing store in the world is at your fingertips...just sayin'. Brick and mortar retail is going out like a dinosaur.
zarraspook Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 MFU-- Try asking your "best fishing store" ... Where on point 16 did you catch the fish????????? "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
fishbait3 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Depending on the my Mood Iwill check online or thru a catalog and have it sent to my house. If not you can find me at either bass pro or Academy when im not workiing or on the lake.
Members Dollar Bill Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 I too like Fin and Feather, not a lot of stuff but they seem to always have just what I'm looking for... You might also check out Sportsman's Factory Outlet on Bennett in Springfield. They've got some serious quantities of fishing stuff... And don't give up on Acadamy. I've got a buddy who just started there in management and I promise, if it can be fixed he'll get it done. Is this fun or what!
Members looking4crappie Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 I too am not to high on Academy as a fishing store. 1 day they will be stocked full of what I'm looking for, the next, all gone. No 4 lb. line (except one cheepy brand). No ultra lite rods, last time I looked they had 1.
smbasser Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 +1 for Sportsmans factory outlet. the guys are always nice and willing to just talk w/ you and the supply of Zoom is ridiculous. I've never had much luck with the owners of Fin N Feather. Seems like everytime I go in there I'm bothering them from watching tv or reading there newspaper. That's just my personal experience. I've been into academy and the fishing department. I won't go back to it unless I want a shirt
