Probably hit there around 12 noon or shortly after. I will try and be on the north side of the rip rap. I will be wearing blue jeans and a dark blue shirt (of course a straw hat, lol). Stop by and chew the fat.
Nwtf gobbler Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 BeagleMan, thats kind the area I was thinking about. That and the rocky bank right before thr cove with the docks. Straw, if I make it up there it'll be between 11 and 12 probably. Both, I'll be in a little 16 ft white Lowe with white motor. I'll stop and say hi if I see you Guys.
Nwtf gobbler Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 What a day!!! Started out going two places Before I ever found minnows. I think I would have been better off saving my money. By the time I got from thr gas station in Greenfield to the CC ramp 90% of them were dead. Fished bluffs/ steep rocky banks/ and channed timber and never caught one. Decided about 3:30 to bass fish the long bluff north of Springfield Cove....Good Idea! I bet I caught 50+ on plastic worms. Ended up with 4 good keepers. Would I have been more if my dang trolling motor didn't die on me. And for you walleye guys, I helped you out and kept the bass. Lol Jason
packersooner Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Sounds like a solid day indeed nwtf! I finally got my wife out in the boat last Tuesday. We targeted crappie generally along and north of the mile long bridge. Tried brush piles first with very little success. Did manage to catch 3 keeper black crappies out of the shallowest brush pile we could find. Two on jigs and one on a chart. twister. Finally gave up on the brush piles and switched to trolling Flicker Shads in large main lake coves. We caught 15 nice white crappie in about a two and a half hour stretch. Several of those were in the 12-14" range. Found you had to get those things down to 15 feet to get the strikes. We trolled anywhere between 1.8 and 2.4 mph. Didn't seem to matter. Depths ranged from 20 to 45 feet. Again, chart. seemed to be the best color...but they were hitting other color combos too. Jason
