I agree, if the other fish were weighed on non certified scales and or without an appropriate official to witness, I'd take their butts to court. On the other hand the guy made a poor decision by not going somewhere else with a certified scale. With 100K on the line I'd make darn sure I had all the t's crossed and I's dotted! Addicted to Creeks Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 i almost feel like people who could care about record fish and all the protocol you have to go through to be a record holder are missing the point of fishing in the first place ( more at AGFC than the guy) Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner

Feathers and Fins Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I agree, if the other fish were weighed on non certified scales and or without an appropriate official to witness, I'd take their butts to court. On the other hand the guy made a poor decision by not going somewhere else with a certified scale. With 100K on the line I'd make darn sure I had all the t's crossed and I's dotted! Mitch, He did.. "It's not like we didn't request Arkansas Game and Fish to come to the scale," says Ply. "We called multiple times to get Arkansas Game and Fish to come to us." But Ply and his friends were told to meet a game warden at a grocery store 30 miles from the marina. "We went there and come to find out, you know, they didn't have a scale there big enough to weigh it," recalls Brotherton. "And the four or five place that we went…we went through two counties trying to find a scale that was big enough to weigh it or that would accommodate a fish this big." Had a game warden or other certified witness traveled to 125 Marina to witness the weigh in there, Ply would likely be a state record holder and $100,000 richer. It would appear that they tried to follow the rules and it was AGFC who by their actions made it next to impossible for this man to claim the record. Had a Warden or other official simply gone to the Lake, verified its weight on the Lakes scale, then the lake had the scale certified the next day then this WOULD be a record no questions needed... But it appears from the article as well other fish have been certified that DID NOT meet the obligations to the rules. AGFC needs to Modify its policy to make dam sure this never happens in the future! Fishing is suppose to be fun. If states want to keep records then they need to make the process simple and fun forr the anglers and UNIFORM for all. This appears to not be that way as other records appear to have not followed the rules yet been awarded. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
