Are the bluegill in Tablerock ever shallow enough to catch with a fly rod? The strip mine pits I fish have water that is probably as clear and I can find spawning beds as shallow as 2 feet.

They were shallow last year but only because the lake was dropping after they made their beds. They started in 15' but by the time it was over they were in about 5'-7'. Seems like there's always a few shallow but the main pockets of them spawn deep.

Caught a dozen big gills and three big rock bass this morning in the Baxter area on points in 14-18 fow on crawlers. Also picked up two nice smallmouth and one nice kentucky while fishing for bluegill.

Yeah I kind of figured that would be the case. Seems like I can pull fish up off beds 6 or 8 ft deep but that's about it. Thanks.

Thanks for all the great advice. Not only are they great tasting and a blast to catch on ultralight two pound test, people don't mind sharing how and where to catch them. Much abliged.
