Feathers and Fins Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I havent pulled crawlers in a bit... Those I pull more in July, Aug... After Aug its back to Striper Chasing https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
rps Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 For me, crawlers work best in the .8 to 1.5 mph range. I find the best crank troll speeds to be 1.8 to 2.5 mph, although sometimes a faster speed will trigger a reaction bite. Howevewr I find that happens most frequently after the thermocline has set and the surface temp is in the 80's.
Jeff Olson Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 thanks for the posts guys! also wondering if you use leeches around here, I heard they are not native here ,and people do not use them, and you cant find them in sport shops, but I saw on COL RONS post a day or 2 ago he was useing them . are they good for walleye around here? and if so, where can you buy them. thanks!
Feathers and Fins Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Never seen them around here for bait or sale to my knowledge. Best two baits I know of around here for them are Shad and Chubs when it comes to live bait. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Jeff Olson Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 I was out on bull shoals yesterday and stopped at k dock marina and asked about leeches and he has not heard of any available in this area. he did have the Gulp leeches for sale though.so I assume that is what Col Ron was useing in his report.
rps Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 a few special order leeches by internet, but they seem a chore to keep. Check out the Uncle Josh "meat" leaches.
Jeff Olson Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Hey guys, anyone who may be interested, we have been talking a little about leeches lately, and how they are not available around here,Well I was at walmart on the strip (76) this morning,in Branson,mo. and they now have leeches! there in the little fridge with the worms and crawlers.$3.25 for a 18-24 count. back in WI, I use lrg ones for walleye, and sm ones for bluegills. and at times the bass and crappies really like them. so hopefully they will sell enough of them to keep them instock! they keep the best if you can limit their movement, like a leech tamer mesh bag,and keep their water cool.I make sm blocks of ice in our freezer using plastic cups and add to their water while in the boat.
