ollie Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Wow, what a day. Two of my buddies talked me into getting up super early and heading out to Elk. We left Neosho at 5 in the morning and took 2 trucks so we wouldn't have to pay for a shuttle. Got up and it was raining. Not a good sign. Raining on us when we finally got there and was putting in. Raining hard I might add, but spirits were high and we could tell it would break sometime soon. We just kept paddling until we got to a spot we knew produced fish or at least produced for us last year. Not to be dissapointed, we hook-up with a couple of smallies. Not big, but a good start none the less. Ended up fishing until around 1:00 since we had the cloud cover most of the morning. Caught right at about 100 smallies between all of us. Throw in a couple of black bass and a few gills and we had a good time! I think the biggest smallie was only like 13" and none of managed any bigger, but all in all it was a good trip. Let's see, we caught them on Fat Alberts, watermelon grubs, and watermelon lizards with a couple of flukes thrown in there for good measures. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Buzz Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Sounds like a good trip. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
npierceuark Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 what stretch did you run? we ran from pineville to the double bridge and caught around 60 for 3 of us but the size was a bit better. largest fish ran about 19 average was probably 15. Threw baby brush hogs and large black lizards.
