Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 8, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 8, 2006 Where did you float from-to? Where and how did you catch your fish... we all assume smallmouth! Thanks
bobber Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 well lets just say from hootntown down stream to marble ground is not boat friendly at this level! and kerr to the james river outfitter was skinny but floatable? and smallies were the target fish, tubes worked but the river bottom was filled with large chunk rock and you would get hung-up every third cast.this change was the key ! we needed lures that wouldn't hit on the bottom.and buddy we tossed the tackle box at them,we'd pick off one or two off a rock pile ,or a downed tree , the biggest fish came out of water so shallow it was hard to belive they could hide!..... at this point i can't tell you what the (magic bait ) was. we have a trip to the gasganade this weekend and i can't let the cat out of the bag just yet!! 'cuase i'm going to whip it on them!! and if my pattern holds i'll report in full on monday. <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 You better lock your truck! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 9, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 9, 2006 ...and you're not posting this secret lure because...... the fish might read the forum and get wise to it? Hummmmm.... (just messin' with ya)
Dutch Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 You might try fishing that tube weedless and weightless.
Kicknbass Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Come on Bobber. You can't use a term like "3 monsters" and not give the weight or length. Give it up.... How big were they? " Too many hobbies to work" - "Must work to eat and play"
BrianK Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I agree.....need lengths on these monsters. 16, 18, 20" ??? And now I'll be going to the Gasconade this wknd with a group of 30 other canoes! actually, i agree with you and the fewer people the better. bk
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 And now I'll be going to the Gasconade this wknd with a group of 30 other canoes! What part? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
bobber Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 ok, after catching so many fish in the 10 to 14 inch size the 17 3/4 was a monster to me!! and the other 16 1/2 inchers, but they were so fat .like 4 inches thich . and we caught them in about 10 inches of water? so when i set the hook they just tail walked the river!! pulling the canoe up stream . 4lb test and ultra lite gear!! i had my hands full for a little while !!!! and i left them there in the river so your kids could catch them!! <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
