I would use a light action 6'6" or 7' Spinning rod and Quality Spinning reel spooled with 15/6 Power Pro Line and tie on a worm hook and slip a 3" BPS Stick O on it weightless. I would also have 1/16oz. Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider Jigs with me if I ran into deeper Pools. A White 1/2oz. Spinnerbait has been taking large numbers of Smallmouths from the Fox River in Illinois. It is worked along the edges of the fast water and left to flutter on the bottom. Also Producto 3" Twisters in Black, Crawfish, and Pearl are good River Smallie Baits. In Winter go to the 2" Pearl Twisters and 1/32oz. Jighead. Arkie Jigs has a 1/16oz and a 1/32oz. Slider type Jighead that works well.

You got to let us in on this "secret" bait. I know what I think it is but I could be totally off... Really looking forward to hearing the Gasconade report.

I have fished the Gasconade a few times recently and it always left me wishing I would have went back to the Niangua.

Just float along behind him about 2 miles and use my suggestions and pick all the Smallies he has missed.

17 3/4" meets my 'monster' criteria and those are darn nice fish.

way to go. I have yet to cross the 19" threshhold for smallies but will keep on trying.....

Let us know how the Gasconade turns out. Weather should be great!

ok, i just got home the trip, it was re-routed to the buffalo! but thats a differant stoy .....pattern didn't hold true ! so here's the skinny on it. it was a floating repala! 3 inch black and silver ;) ...i would cast it out 8 to 10 feet off the bank long cast from the canoe, and just.... DEAD STICK IT! after the rings from landing on the water would dissapear>>>> don't move at all ! a small twitch or even lifting the line made all the differance . you had to not do anything i mean ,dead still, then the sun fish (blue gill ) would come up and "pop" at it, and the second, or third time it was a goodie that would slurp it under and the fight was on!! this worked both days on a afternoon bite! B) and we put them all back!

You haven't seen anything until you've seen the sides of a van expand and contract! :P
