Justin Spencer Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Amy and I closed on a piece of property just above Dawt Mill that has a nice cabin, and a great takeout spot on it for our lower float (don't have to use the mess that is Dawt Mill any more!!!!!). After the rain yesterday I got a chance to go down and fish a little on the enourmous riffle located along the waterfront. My sidekick Brandon, who had the day off yesterday, had fished it just as the rain was stopping and reported catching around 20 fish, including an 18" rainbow, a 20" brown and numerous other small browns. This peaked my interest so we grabbed some charcoal and the kids and went down for a little barbeque at our new pavillion overlooking the river. While the coals were heating I grabbed a Pat's rubberlegs and headed upstream on the side of the large island located just above our landing. The first good looking spot produced a nice 16" rainbow that became harder to land when my reel fell off (be sure reel seats are tight). I continued upstream discovering, and walking through the good looking seams and runs located throughout this riffle. Not knowing this water I messed quite a bit of it up since I was in a hurry to get back to my coals but I did manage one more fat brown before heading back to my burgers. Most serious trout fishermen never get to this spot since it is below James Bridge, and I had never done more than float through it on my way to Dawt. I am very excited to get back and fish this when I have a little more time and next time throw a streamer! Right now the cabin sleeps 7, we will probably add a futon to make it sleep 9. It's already being booked, and we had people stay last weekend that loved it. Sorry about the shameless advertising, but I'm really excited about this place (and I need people to rent it so I can make the payments) "The problem with a politician’s quote on Facebook is you don’t know whether or not they really said it." –Abraham Lincoln Tales of an Ozark Campground Proprietor Dead Drift Fly Shop
Members ehammer Posted June 12, 2012 Members Posted June 12, 2012 Looks great Justin. Are you renting it for the same price as the river house? Can't wait to see that section of the river.

Summer rates are $300 per night. Off season will probably be in the $150 to $200 range, but you will have to fight me for it in the winter, I forsee many weekend fish frys there (gigging is legal) followed by NFL Sunday Ticket the next day! What's up with our reels falling off, I was constantly getting tangled also, I think I may quit fly fishing, I'm getting much worse as I age! Congrats on your "cover" shot in Greene magazine Mr. Wise, do all your clients throw that tight of a loop? Justin Spencer Posted June 12, 2012 Author Posted June 12, 2012 Just got a copy of the latest Greene Magazine and you are in your driftboat with some clients right on the cover. There is an article inside on one tank trips from Greene county which includes going to the North Fork, and ROLF and Dawt Mill. No love for Sunburst, other than a paid for advertisement in the mag. Brian Wise Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Ouch! You paid for an ad but they didn't throw love at you? Just saw it......and am completely embarassed about that cover. The guy was french so that explains it all--should have had his wife in the front of the boat, she could cast AND was easy on the eyes. My Youtube Channel
