I want to clean my line and put new dressing on it but the problem is I have no line dressing and no where around here t get any. I have read online to use armor then I read not to so would like some opinions from you folks here is it safe to use it or not and have you had any experience with using it for this .

When I was doing the distance casting curcuit, I used Armor-All a lot. It made the line crazy-slick, and maybe a little 'too' slick for good fishing situations. I actually still have the SA line I used for competition distance casting and it shows no ill-effect from Armor-All, but for fishing situations I feel like soapy water would be better than Armor-All. But your best bet is something like Rio's Agent X dressing. Soap and water will take the dirt off of your line but the true "Line Dressings" will moisturize your line to help stop the dry rotting proccess.

I use Renew once in awhile and it slicks the line up some. Russ Peak line dressing is pretty good also. Armour-All is everywhere. Dish soap and water does wonders though.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I wonder if using Armor-All leaves any petroleum-based pollutants in the water? Just asking....

I use dishsoap and water with a soft sponge to clean, and then use SA's Line Dressing.

I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."

Last fall I bought a mid priced fly line, paid about half of what I typically spend on a premium line. It's a mess with ground in stains and cracks, even cleaning and dressing it twice a day doesn't help. The line only sees day light and heat when it in my hand or in the boat. The premium lines would typically last me three years or so. I beleive it was a Corrtland but I can't remember for sure. Did I get what I paid for? Or did I just choose the wrong line.
