Hunter91 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Went this evening with my son. Very suprised at how many people were out. It has been a while since I fished the lake. We managed 7 bass mostly LM and one nice kentucky between 12-17 in. On buzzbaits. Looked like everyone we saw were throwing buzzbaits.
Members Jayvee Posted June 15, 2012 Members Posted June 15, 2012 very nice. I have never caught anything there before. I used to go there a lot but had no luck. Where do you fish at if you don't mind me asking? Jv
Hunter91 Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 We fished a little way up the lake from the ramp all the way down to the park.
Jack Jones Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I'm with you Jayvee. Never caught much there. Don't know the secret. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Hunter91 Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 I have fished this lake for 17 years. The only secret I know is to keep it simple. I throw topwaters early and late, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and the occasional texas rigged dark colored worm the rest of the time. My biggest bass out of the lake was 5 lbs several years ago but have caught a lot up to 3.5lbs. Good luck.
Members jaskea8 Posted June 19, 2012 Members Posted June 19, 2012 I hear a lot of people saying not to eat the fish out of Lake Springfield. Why is that? Is it safe to eat or whats the deal?
Hunter91 Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 When I fished the lake alot I checked with MDC and they said it was safe. I am sure its no different than eating fish out of the James River or Table Rock. I believe most people compare it to a clear water lake like TR or Stockton and because its a generally murky water lake they think the fish could not be safe out of that kind of water. I grew up fishing in north Louisiana and all of our lakes had water clarity about like Springfield Lake.
Members usmcgrunt Posted June 22, 2012 Members Posted June 22, 2012 It may also be because of the power plant. Add a power plant and murky water and you got some people swearing they see mutant fish swimming around. The way I figure, with the power plant right there, the chemical levels are being much more closely monitored than other lakes so in my mind it's safer to eat fish from there. Please don't shoot holes in my logic, it's the only thing keeping me eating the catfish I catch out of there lol
