ness Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Kernoodles lives! I think it's private though. If you beleive the signs. http://goo.gl/maps/kTjM John
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I'd never heard of it. Spent most of my time in eastern Jackson county before the fee's started. The area it's located at holler's Catfishing for the south KC crowd. Be sure to stop by Wayside Waifs and adopt a dog. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
woodman Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 With kayaks in toe I wandered over to Kernoodles Sat. and a guy at one of the entrances said they were closed.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
ness Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 One of the great thing about floating around KC is -- you never know just WHAT you'll find: http://www.kmbc.com/news/kansas-city/Human-remains-found-along-Little-Blue-River/-/11664182/15238264/-/qky9ri/-/index.html John
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Go to that park on 291 and do the Big Mo. It should be low enough now to be easy. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
GloryDaze Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I kayak and fish the Kaw, Indian Creek, Shawnee Mission Lake and the upper Blue River off Holmes and Kenneth Road. My favorite is the upper Blue River.... closest you'll get to an Ozark stream around here (rocky bottom and surrounded by public land). If you put in on the upper section, you can get a good 10 mile float in before you hit 435 and then the river changes:) It's narrow and windy, but almost always catch a catfish or two on the trip. You have to catch it at the right time in order to enjoy the upper stretch. Problem with that is: a) muddy water muddy water filled with chemicals from all the runoff, c) the chemical smell can be overbearing. But hey, i didn't suggest drinking it, just floating it! Little Blue, huh? Interesting history at the Bannister Federal Complex right along through there. WWII airplane engine factory, Dept. of Defense landfill, non-nuclear (right!) parts for nuclear weapons, Honeywell, Westinghouse, Bendix, IRS, GSA, Superfund sites. Beautiful country, that John
GloryDaze Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Yeah- I've heard to avoid anything below 435, I take out at Red Bridge. Well used to until they recently finished the new bridge, I haven't floated the lower section since then so I don't know where I will take out now. You should see my neighbors face when I'm loading up my little Swifty in the driveway after I tell them I'm floating the upper Blue River, HA!! In all honesty it is a pretty little section with a nice current. Last time I only had to portage one time on a five mile trip. I need to get some pics off my camera and post them. GloryDaze Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Ness- upper stretch I put in just South of Martin City off Holmes and Kenneth. There's an old park there refferes to as old polo grounds. Float from there to Blue Ridge and take out at the MDCaccess. Its right at 5 miles. Another stretch is put in at the MDCaccess at Blue Ridge and go down to Red Bridge. Its about another 5 miles. I've run into a few other floaters on those stretches. Like I said nothing like the Ozarks but its moving water that has same characteristics of upper stretches of Ozark streams. But ultimately it gets me on the water 5 minutes from my house. Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
