woodman Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 You better stay away from the 4 Jackson County lakes...I call it their "Don't Ask Don't Tell'' policy when you have to buy a sticker to put a kayak or canoe on one of their lakes....When you go in the office to get a sticker and you don't ask they aren't about to volunteer any info..not even to tell you to pick up a pamphlet about their regulations ( which is on steroids compared to the State of Mo.) When would the thought of restricted launch sites enter into the mind of a paddler on a public lake...stocked by the MDC.... The park rangers (ENFORCERS) are about the most un-compassionate bunch I have ever run into.....yea... what's a warning ticket..not.... Moved out of the clutches of Jackson County and Kansas City 10 yrs ago..to Lafayette County.... And to think I grew up in this area.... learned to water ski at Prairie Lea lake back in the early 60's.... I'm N..E..V..E..R....going back even to fish from the bang..or on someone else's boat..or to use one of their shelter houses...no telling what layes..lurking ..behind ..a tree..nitpicking on any thing you do wrong.. Big Brother at it's worst... Two $113. fines in less than 2 weeks I'm done.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Moved up to Clay county from Jackson county 22 years ago Woodman. Not as bad as Jackson as far as fees go, but Clay was supposed to lose the park fees at Smithville years ago. County government around the metro areas suck. woodman Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 The primary mission of the Park Safety & Enforcement Division of the Park's Department is to assist in the control, management and protection of all Jackson County parks, wildlife, natural and cultural resources. This is accomplished through enforcing regulations set forth in Chapter 50 of the Jackson County Code. http://www.jacksongo.../3279/3908.aspx Chapter 50....above and beyond any Mo. State Regulations ........Can walk down to the waters edge where it is ok to fish but I can't put a 28lb. kayak on the water their.....Sound like a MONEY MAKING SCAM????? http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Understand bud. Did Jacomo and Prairie Lee years before Blue Springs Lake come alomg and they decided to call the whole thing Fleming Park. But hey... don't you mean you CAN walk down to the waters edge to fish? Just can't slide the yak in there? That's BS. Sounds like they wanna put a bunch of stickers on your yak. fishinwrench Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Enforcing the laws and rules of the land has become a very lucrative business, hasn't it? They'll greed themselves out of business before long. Freakin' Terrorists.
Members Markhat Posted June 20, 2012 Members Posted June 20, 2012 Do I understand that I cant fish out of my kayak below the Jacomo dam in the lower BS lake?. Feel for you. They nailed me a few yrs ago for a redicluous 85 buck offense.
MoSportsmen Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Sorry to hear about your troubles. Reminds me of the ticket I got for speeding in Finger Lakes. The road from the gate to the main boat ramp has little to no foot traffic, few intersections and it is wide and smooth. Also has a 20 MPH speed limit. In my case at least I should have seen the posted speed limit. In your case sounds like there are too many nit pick rules to follow. I have said before if you are an outdoor person you are going to inadvertantly break some rules/laws because there are just too many to keep track of. The sad thing is your activities had nothing to do with endangering yourself, others or the resource. Too much government. Messing about in boats
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 That's nothing new for JACO or KC. They drove everybody out of the city decades ago because of greed. Their biggest achievement is in producing Johnson County. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
woodman Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 The second fine came yesterday...I took a single moms younger teen fishing at Prairie Lea mainly because I could get out of the wind and test out the tandem Perogue, and their very rarely is a park ranger their.... We went up the creek around from the old launch ramp for some quiet fishing for a couple hrs....then back at the ramp we started unloading , well I got the idea to see if he wanted to try the narrow kayak..My mistake was not having one boat out before i put the other one in, I had velcro on the back of the sticker to switch between boats..... Any way he just paddled around the launch ramp for less than 10 min. and a ranger shows up and notices no sticker on the kayak ... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
