Se Missouri Drought Goes From Severe To Extreme.

Just out today in the local paper. Hi temps and no chance of rain in sight has elevated our drought conditions to Extreme. Forecast is for 103 next Friday. Moderate temps have helped lately, but they are turning to the worst.

I lost the battle on the yard, concentrating on watering the garden. Trees are starting to show signs of distress. Now we have a new danger of fires since fireworks season is kicking off.

^{I hear ya, our part of arkansas has also been put in the extreme, I'm right next to the Bootheel. I farm for a living, and this thing is hitting me hard, pumping water like crazy where I can. Went fishing in the St. Francis last week, and had a hard time running the boat, very low for this time of year...}

and it's not even july. wait till october when we are in the peak of the dry season. It's going to get far, far worse.

Looks like it's going to be a long hot summer.

My grandfather used to farm in the Bootheel, had a farm in Campbell MO. He mainly grew cotton and soybeans.

Actually, the forecast is for some change. Hotter.

So far we have had mild temps that have helped keep the garden and crops in fair shape. When it heats up to 1-- plus like they are predicting, what is green will wilt even faster. It will also suck the moisture out of rivers and lakes faster, and heat them up more.

As I mentioned, fireworks season is kicking off. One bottlerocket into the dry timber will start many fires. Already, there are several burned spots around the area where a careless cigarette was tossed out and ignited a grass fire.

I haven't been there in years, my grandpa died in 1970, when I was 13. Used to go up to the farm when I was a kid, he had an indian mound on the farm, I'd hunt arrowheads while he was working. After he died my grnadma rented out the farm, she passed on just a few years ago, and my uncle and mom sold the farm. Grandpa always complained about the soil at his farm, he always wanted a river bottom farm with black soil instead of that rocky red soil up in Campbell. But he made a good living off that farm, back in the 60's a farmer could do well on a 200 acre farm.

I remember when the St Francis west of Kennett was full of trees, they've really cleaned it up.

Quillback, Yeah, there is some sandy ground up there at Campell, but there some good stuff to. The farm here were I live has been in the family for 103 years. The St. Francis is still got alot of trees in places, as well as alot of down trees in the river, this was just north of the Kennett Bridge. Here's some pics of a fishing trip I took the Men of my Sunday School class on last week. It's really low right now, but made for good fishing, and good times. The river here is at levels you usually see in a dry August, I can imagine how low it will get if this continues. This here is how we do it in the Delta....lol

Hot and extremely dry up here in st Louis too. Hit 108 a few days ago. 7 days in a row above 100 deg mark thus far. Praying for rain as even the corn crops are wilting and turning brown already.
