Brian Wise Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Hey guys, Posted this on the NFOW forum but thought I would throw it here too. Fishing this spring was a lot different than the last several we have had on and around the NFOW. Like so much of the state (and Northern Arkansas) we were REALLY dry this Spring which equals lower than usual water, and only a few days where we had what we would call "stupid" numbers of fish. The Whites were up and down locally, and Justin and myself never really spanked them either (that is kind of the "last hoorah" for Justin and I before his canoe season and my guiding season go crazy so we tend to fish together quite a bit). But with some really cool people, some crazy incidents, and what I am calling the greatest sunrise timelapse ever caught on film (ok, so probably not but it was AWESOME) I give you......the Spring 2012 Video. I hope you enjoy. My Youtube Channel
Arofishing Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Great video. What a fat rainbow! How big was it? I had (almost) the same thing happen to me in Canada with my 40" pike. After declaring the fish "wasn't that big" and claiming I could strip it in by hand, I got her half way to the boat and she took off for the first time (for whatever reason she wasn't fighting before then, hence the she's "not that big"). My slack line, replete with knots, darted for my reel and got it call clogged to hell. So here I was trying to fix that and hold a 40"/20lb fish at the same time. It all worked out though! Did your reel actually break? That's what it looked like. And what are you pointing at at 6:00? Strippers? Browns?

My reel had been messing up a little bit that whole day, it was loose enough that my line would slip between the bottom bar and the spool so, in effect, the line would end up coming off of the back of the reel. I was throwing that crazy-huge "Hog Snare" (triple articulated awesomeness) and had just laid down a big cast when I noticed it had messed up again so I stopped and unscrewed my spool to fix it and about that time Justin says "Now is the time you are going to get a strike"..................yeah, it happened. Not a huge rainbow by any means but it was a chunk, I'm sure it was over 18" though. Absolutely crazy. The fish I was pointing at were browns, all in Summer holds and that was early June. Nick Williams Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Brian, I can't get the video to play on my iPhone. This only ever happens with these videos, not your tying ones? Just wanted you to know! Guess I'll wait till I get home to watch it! - Nick
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Great, I enjoyed it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Justin Spencer Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I REALLY wish Justin and I could have caught that whole thing on video I was too busy putting you on that fish. You get that big brown in the winter, big bow in the spring, all I get are tiny fish on huge flies, I wish you would share your fish catching secret with me. Loved the video, like always you set the bar higher every time you make one. Maybe someday I'll catch a good fish instead of the two smallest in the video, even the goggle eye was bigger I think, pretty sure you did that on purpose. Brian Wise Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Brian, I can't get the video to play on my iPhone. This only ever happens with these videos, not your tying ones? Just wanted you to know! Guess I'll wait till I get home to watch it! I have gotten some emails about that every new "Seasonal" video. I am pretty sure it is a music issue. The vast majority of the tying videos I use "indie" music and for most of the Seasonal videos I use music with a copyright so youtube blocks moblie viewing. Does the same thing to me on my Droid. Don't sell yourself short.....that Goggle Eye was a freak. When you can come out and play again we will get a big Justin fish! My Youtube Channel

Justin Spencer Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Don't sell yourself short.....that Goggle Eye was a freak. When you can come out and play again we will get a big Justin fish! One of these evenings we need to meet down at our new landing, let the kids play and the women bbq, and we can fish that run right there. It has already produced a couple 20" browns and Brandon had on what he said was his biggest rainbow to date, jumped a few times and got off. Pretty sexy streamer water!
