Cheap is not a term I would follow too close to heart when it comes to the water pump. My motor has been down for almost 2yrs now so I can relate with costs and understand your dilemma.

There are several places. Mobile Marine (Daniel) is good. Wolf (Rogers/Prarrie Creek) is is really busy this time of year. Almost all places will cost about the same ($300 ballpark range). When it comes to the water pump, you want to find the best mechanic. Its a simple job but can be a bit labor intensive on some motors because you have to drop the lower unit and some outboards are harder to put back together (like mine). I think the average cost is around $300-350 for a water pump and basic TuneUp.

Call around, check prices and turnaround time.

Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message.

He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

R&R = Remove and replace ............ Takes about an hour to get into the water pump and replace the pump and test the pump.....

I like J&J Marine in Lowell, low overhead no pretty girls to answer the phone everyone there has grease on them but they don't have to make money to support overhead. They do most of the work outside so might be slowing down in this heat.

Mobile and Wolf would get my vote.

I tried the Boat Place on 71 in Rogers the last time I needed a little work done in an attempt to get a quicker turnaround. I came away very displeased. They are the type that will tell you that pretty much everything needs to be replaced because it will eventually go out if you don't replace it. On top of that, I caught them in 2 separate lies to me. Nothing big, but just enough for me to question their integrity.

Sorry to hear that, I always had good experience there, I feel guilty for recommending them now.

No it wasn't J&J - Stump. It was "Boat Place" further north on 71B near the Monte Ne turnoff. Never heard anything bad about J&J.
