BilletHead Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hit a favorite place with the kayaks with the flyrods this morning. Started out throwing larger flys, caught lots of bass with a bluegill now and again. Fished about an hour when I told the better half I was going to try a underwater hump in the middle of the lake. Well I hit the mother load of big bluegill. On a size 4 brown wooly bugger of all things over 2 inches long. I got Mrs. billetheads attention to come over and join the fun. Game on! Over the next hour we caught 70 of the gills. Between 8 to 9 inches with several pushing 10. We also threw burks aggravators in a olive/chartruse color. Thought we would share the morning with you all with a report and photos, BilletHead The flys Mrs. BilletHead in action Some of the fish. Chris Barclay Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I'm so jealous! Very nice gills! Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
Addicted to Creeks Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Man this reminded me how long its been since I've fished for gills. Gonna have to get out and get some. Thanks for the report Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner
Bird Watcher Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Nice Marty. Hey, I was thinking about maybe heading up North of the Dam Tomorrow in the afternoon. Would you have any interest in going? I kind of have some month old intel from a good friend about something up there.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Very nice. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
BilletHead Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Thanks fellows, North of the dam? Hummm? What dam? Yes Chris I will be around tomorrow afternoon and would be in for a info seeking mission. In the morning at daylight I will be pestering the gills though. They are pumping things right on down for the crops. The "E" lake is really sad. BilletHead I think it's a place that you have frequented before if I remember right. A place a guy can catch the love child of a Striped bass and a White bass. . I bet that lake is sad.. Heck, I bet all of them are up there in corn country. I'll try to get ahold of my friend and see if he can give me some more particulars about the logistics of it. I know he was catching the fire out of them about a month ago and it was all dependent on the generation schedule. If I can get all the info lined up, I'm thinking about taking a road trip up there to check it out. If I'm reading the generation schedule right, it looks like it would be afternoon before it would be time to go anyway. I'll send you a text in the morning and let you know if I'm going or not. That way if you are out fishing, you can call me after you finish up on the gills.
