Goggle-Eyed Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I am planning a float from Prosperine to Lead Mine on Sunday/Monday. This is my last opportunity to do an overnight float trip before I head back to China for three months. Just curious what others think about the storm forecast for Sunday. Knowing that most summertime storms come up quick and leave in a hurry would you just chance it? I have ridden out several storms on the river and had to hunker down for awhile. I have also had the river come up several feet while I was floating... I just don't think the storms will produce enough rain to matter... The actual storm/lighting/winds are my concern... Anyway, what are your thoughts about going ahead with the float based on the current forecast? Of course if it is really bad we will cancel, just curious about your thoughts based on today forecast... Joe
dennis boatman Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 ...I'd take my chances... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Greasy B Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 It looks like there really isn’t a front coming through just a change in the weather pattern back to what we would normally see this time of year. The way I look at it is when they say there is a 40% chance of rain what they really mean is there’s a 100% chance of rain and a 40% chance it will rain on you. Remember the golden rule: never cancel a trip because of a forecast only cancel because of actual weather. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Midwest troutbum Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Don't let the weather forecast this far out affect your plans.... everything changes within a few hours here in Missouri. Keep your eye on a local radar and regional or state radar the morning of to get somewhat of an idea as to what the next several hours might be like or if storms are developing and from what direction, anticipated path, and approx idea as to what time..... As a final note, use caution and have a plan and or equipment if storms or high waters should develop, But don't let a few pop up showers affect your plans....get off the river and out of anything aluminum if lightning begins. gotmuddy Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 as dry as it is around here, it would take 6+ inches of rain to cause any flooding. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I think I would go Joe, just take the normal precautions and stay clear of cottonwoods if there's lightening and if you camp, camp high. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
