Jacob W Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Did fairly well this morning in a spot between boat docks and where the creek channel run parallel beside it. Found plenty of shad and when I could pinpoint the bait, I had the most luck on a flutter spoon casting it and fishing it back with a stroking retrieve. Surprisingly caught several nice spots and a few largemouths that way. When I couldn't find the fish, I dragged a fb jig and shakey head to catch them as well.
techo Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Hey Jacob.....how deep are you pulling them from? Tim Carpenter
Jacob W Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Caught some as shallow as 10 feet, but the majority I caught this morning was sitting in a little channel 22 feet average depth suspended in the channel or under the docks, just depended where the shad were. The fish did move a lot with the bait. The flutter spoon worked well for me today, especially on those suspended fish because I could get em to bite it falling down through them.
ozarkgunner Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I found 5 keepers up shallow on a point this morning. Smallies spots and a black. Good morning. Picked up 15 shorts on top water in the same area once they came up. Lots of fish on top water and a smoke grub. Fishing out of joe bald. Water temp was 86. Fish were in 5 foot of water or less and busting shad over 25 for the top water bite. Small point has produced 9 keepers in 5 foot of water or less in last 3 trips. Angler At Law

techo Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 thanks. Hate the early hours for us guys that work late but sounds like it is fun! Tim Carpenter
ozarkgunner Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Anyone else still fishing a grub? It has been killer when shad are around. Smoke color with red flakes. Angler At Law
