gotmuddy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 maybe I am crazy, but I routinely drink from springs on the 11pt and NFoW. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
steve l Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 maybe I am crazy, but I routinely drink from springs on the 11pt and NFoW. Ohhhhh, I suspect someone can explain the topology better than I, but those springs aren't just like aquifers. The get a lot of their water from the surrounding land. And cattle and septic and landfills etc. I wouldn't drink any of the water unfiltered.
jdmidwest Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Spring water goes thru a karst system that does some filtering, it does nothing to the bacteria along the way. You still need to kill the bugs in the water to make it safe to drink. In rain events, the springs will turn muddy also. Miles downstream from where cattle are in the stream and it stinks from the urine and feces, the water clears up and you would never know it because of dilution. But it is still there in the water. Big Spring on the Current has just turned cloudy due to the drought. http://www.semissourian.com/story/1871267.html "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. gotmuddy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 my bowels must be made of stronger stuff than most then. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Wayne SW/MO Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 If you ever get a case of giardia you'll wish you didn't have bowels, for months! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
gotmuddy Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 You are crazy, I would drink river water before spring water! why? everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
jdmidwest Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 A good case of Beaver Fever and the spincther gives way, you never know what bowels are. Your digestive system becomes a free flow device. I have watched locals come down to Lassiters access at Mammoth Springs and fill up jugs of "spring water" for drinking. Of course, just before, ducks were swimming and pooping and someone cleaned some trout at the same boat ramp. Even some shallow dug wells are not really fit to drink out of due to farm runoff and other sources of E Coli. But you see many swallow large amounts of water swimming in ponds that I would wash my feet after I loaded a boat. Justin Spencer Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 why? I've seen results of water tests out of the springs and they are full of bacteria. gotmuddy Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 my well is fairly shallow, 173ft but it is filtered through gravel all the way. I dont drink from the big springs, there is one between rainbow and blair that comes out of a bluff on the left side of the river. Every time I stop by there I get a drink. It is always refreshing. On the 11pt about 300yd below morgan spring float camp there is a small spring on the left side of the river that is hidden behind a tree right next to the river. Great water. Every time you swim in a lake/pond/river you drink water. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
