Heading to Branson this coming weekend, and leaving the kids with there grandparents. So my wife and I are planning to do some fishing while we are there. Don't want to drag the supreme all around Branson, so planning on just renting a boat at Lilly's. Wondering what the best methods for trout fishing are right now. I flyfish as well as spin fish for them. so will be prepared to try both. Looking for some advice to get a game plan on catching some trout. Thanks in advance!!

Read the reports here in OA, listen to the call in reports linked to, and talk to the people at Lilley's Landing. they can get you set up for however the bite is when you are there.

The ONE thing I've been saying is go light line.

My last report about gave all our "secrets" away. Unless you're wanting to do a particular type of fly or spin fishing, info is here. If you're wanting something specific, ask away.

Thing is... you have to post a report, with pictures!! :)

Thanks Phil, I will defenity post a report...:) If you saw any of my Smallmouth fishing last winter, you know I love to post stuff...lol Looking forward to trying out tanycomo. Been coming to Branson for years, but never fished here yet. After talking it over tonight, leaning on Bringing my boat and renting one of your stalls. May want to fish two to three times while we are there. I've watched some of your youtube stuff, "which is better than some fishing shows on right now", I see you like maribou jigs, I do as well, but usually fish them with a flyrod for smallmouth, thought about trying that for some trout. My wife isn't as experienced fishing as I, so the tight line bait fishing will work great for her, probably try several different tactics while i'm there.

I loved your video on the dry fly fishing, that would be awesome if they are hitting dry's. Other wise gonna try the flyrod out some on whatever there hitting on when we get there. Thanks Bret.

Try foam beetle patterns for dry activity in the seams.. too soon for sure-fire hopper hits in my opinion.

Indicator fishing from a boat requires some long drifts.. so bring a 9ft'er or longer.

Especially out of the boat - a 9ft or longer long will aid in hook setting.

learn the use of the trolling motor technique in the water running (2 units is best) and you will have best luck

Let us know how you did when the trip is complete! If I see ya - I will hand you an O/A sticker !!! if I had an extra one

Thanks Brian, I will have to try that. I lost my tackle back in the spring going down the interstate, so I need to restock on flies, all I have is some midges and caddis's. Last weekend on Spring River I actually was fishing trout magnets with the flyrod, works really well. I've got two 9 footer, 4wt and 5wt. If there generating any, probably will try some drift fishing, my wife will like that tactic, but nothing like catching them on the fly!!

A sticker would be awesome, planning on guying some of the OA Teeshirts while we are there!! I'll be in a white Supreme with a red stripe and merc Jet.....:)

Jd- If 2 units are running - you just slightly tap the trolling motor to keep your drift straight, as the currents will be pushing the boat in various directions coming off any of a number of shoals or direct river currents. It's almost like a ferrying technique to keep you drifting as intended despite the oncoming shoals and currents pushing against them.. or off of them.

I am not one who can do this... but I have seen it done and described me several times. Its trial and error at first, takes a ton of time of the water to learn. But if more than 30 guys I know do it.. then it can't be that hard.

1 unit - much more difficult. 3 units is easier than 2 but the outcome is different as you will be fishing differently and in more water. The drift will be much deeper and less controlled.

4 units to me is long line deep fly rod fishing with 2 flies in blind water that should/will hold fish - and always does!

I also got a report today that hoppers are in effect... but they are just 'gumming' some of them. Not really hungry enough to commit fully... but they like the beetles and ants and will bite down hard and not let go on those.

Oddly, the hoppers were pink. I've never seen a pink hopper to this day.
