Members jgentile Posted August 15, 2012 Members Posted August 15, 2012 Hello all, With fall coming I am going to start fishing BSC as it is sooooooooo much closer to home than the Current. I've been there once with a spinning rig many years ago (no luck) so I have a pretty good idea of how small this water is. This said, my only visit was without a fly rig so I need some suggestions. I do not want to take my 9'0 5 weight and the 6 weight streamer rod is out of the picture as well. I was looking at a Beaver Meadows 5'0 2 weight as an option. Here is a link: http://www.jprossfly.../beaver_meadow/ Do any of you who regularly fish this water think this is a good option or is it too small. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Tight lines for now! Joe
mic Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 At the risk of sounding like a OAF homer, I COMPLETELY LOVE my 3 wieght, 7 foot that OAF member RDP makes. It is absolutly perfect for MO's small waters and the price is cheaper then the ones you posted. Plus, you get to pick your colors and options. Turn around was good also. It also makes a great blue gill farm pond rod. Reel makes pretty much no difference because of the size of the fish and the size of the water. I prefer a dual taper line because you will be making some role casts and a ton of wrist flicks. I think there are a couple of other guys here who have RDP rods. My Dad has a great 5 wieght that RDP made. http://www.rdpflyrods.com/. Finally, you can keep you money local. Drop me a PM this fall, and we can't split gas. I'm almost afraid to see what the creek looks like.
Flyflinger Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I regularly fish BSC with my 8'6" 5wt....it's way to big...I just haven't come off the green to by a small 2-3wt. I would definatley suggest a rod under 8' long....I bet a 6'6" - 7' would be perfect...2-3wt. Remember if you want to catch fish of any size at BSC you have to become like a ninja ghost....stay low and move slow. There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit
rfd515 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 If you're looking for cheap, Eagle Claw Featherlights come in 6'6 and they're like thirty bucks
Gavin Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 A 7'6'' 3wt is about perfect, IMO..Made a 6' 1pc years ago...it was great on the lawn...but it wasnt good on the water. Too short....an 8' 5wt is great when the water is up. Have fun.
Geoff Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I am pretty fond of my 7' 3wts on the creek. They seem to work very well there. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
