UnCivE Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Any of you guys cave much? I've done a few short (4 hr) trips the last few weeks to beat myself back into shape, and I'm ready to get at it. . .
jdmidwest Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I would have thought the peak of the caving season was during dry hot weather. Less chance of flash flooding due to storms dumping into the karst system. Nice cool getaway from the heat. I was young and thought that caving looked like fun. Now as I age, crawling around damp tight places have lost their interest. I do still enjoy the show caves that you can walk thru standing up and dry. jdmidwest Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Ok, I give up. Why would you crawl thru a cave during a rain event? During a rain, it drains off into sinkholes which are a part of any cave system. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

It never really goes out of season, but when the leaves fall off the trees, it's way easier to find em. I do a lot of walking and looking for new caves. There are caves that flood, and caves that don't, you gotta know which is which... Don't do new caves in the rain for sure.. You'd be surprised at how little some caves seem to care how much it rains. I'm headed out to one today!
