Patrick M Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I am looking into Pouring my own baits whether it be injection or hand pouring. Does anyone do this or have any thoughts on it? anyone selling equipment or know where i can purchase it for a decent price?
exiledguide Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Barlows tackle out of Richardson Tx was the company I bought from but that was a long time ago they have a website. There are a lot more on the net I know there are other members here who have more up to date info. My only advice is DO NOT USE YOUR WIFE'S Best pots when cooking plastic and it would be best NOT TO COOK IN THE KITCHEN get a Coleman stove and cook in the garage or basement. Also DO NOT STORE NIGHTCRAWLERS IN THE REFRIGERATOR if you avoid these things you will make it a lot easier to stay married for a long without doing a lot of .....................
Patrick M Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 i have seen on youtube where they use a pyrex measuring cup and heat in a used microwave. i have another microwave and old pyrex measuring cup. do you hand pour or inject as well?
Patrick M Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 and im looking at plastic molds or aluminum. the aluminum is more expensive.
Guest Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Tackle Underground: http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/forum/14-soft-plastics/ Bear makes a very good aluminum mold. http://bearsbaitsforum.com/index.php I would steer clear of Delmart's molds.
Mitch f Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I'm fairly new at it myself but the only advice I would give is to make sure you only put the microwave on 50% power for about 3-4 minutes and stir, stir, stir. then heat in 30 second intervals until 340 degrees. 360 or so and the smoke will drive you out of the room. Polycarbonate molds don't last as long because of the heat, so aluminum would be better. I know you are doing this to save money but if you are having trouble matching the color you want, you can always go to the store and buy plastic baits at Walmart or somewhere cheap and reheat them. For sure. If you want to save money then hand pouring is the wrong avenue. If you want to tinker around, then I would definitely do it. Otherwise, theres plenty of garage worm chefs that sell premium hand pours. Good luck man

I'm older than I thought I didn't have microwaves when I cooked plastic . Sorry
Patrick M Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 trophyfishr i am looking to just tinker see what i can come up with. i am going to hopefully be doing some night tournments on table rock next summer and want to see if i can mess around with making baits and adding scents or attractants to my own baits and i think it would be neat to catch fish on something ive made. i think i am going to start out bare minimum with what i normally fish and get those molds and then go for there. if i can get good enough maybe sell to friends if it works.
dennis boatman Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 you can make your own molds with plaster...me and my son used to do them all the time...they also work for lead...I'm sure you can find information either on Youtube or just internet...and its very cheap... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
