Members Ozark Ranger Posted October 2, 2012 Members Posted October 2, 2012 Anyone running either of these rigs? If so opinions either way? I fish LOZ, Table Rock and looking to start fishing marinas near Alton, Il. I like the 18-19' size plus the 150-200 HP rating. For a single guy with a couple buddies and no kids this size would be great as a first real fishing boat. Open to other thoughts, that why I am posting here. Thanks in advance. -'84 Ranger 395V w/ 225 Mariner EFI "A Bad Day Fishing, Is Away Better Then A Good Day Of Work"
Champ188 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Not familiar with the 488VS but a very close fishing buddy back in Hot Springs, AR used to have a 481VS with a Mercury 150 EFI. That was one fine fishing machine. Ran like a scalded dog, took rough water very well and fished really nice. Always enjoyed going with Gary.
huntest Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I have a 487 VS (with single console) and really like it. 200 hp Mercury
cnr Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Looking at the specs the 488VS is 12" longer and 35lbs heavier. I doubt there is much performance difference between the hulls but that is just a guess not having run either one. I would opt for the longer boat, I've never heard of anyone wish there boat was shorter that fished LOZ. Unless there is a storage issue.
johnboy2bfishin Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I own a 1992 482v with a 150 and I have a deck extension to make a full flippin deck the boat is a nice boat only draw back is the rod locker is only long enuf for a 7ft rod and it is tight at that. Plenty of storage and dry ride and still runs strong
