Members 6.5BR Posted October 16, 2012 Author Members Posted October 16, 2012 More great feedback, I was correct assuming this forum would be full of much experience! Looks like I have some experimenting to do but I have lots of ideas, which have been tested in the field! I look forward to learning much on this site. Thanks all very much for sharing what works for each of you, sincerely!

MOPanfisher Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I will be the odd man out I absolutely love braid on UL outfits. I have used as low as 4# fireline, but prefer 6# for the majority of it. Mostly used Fireline and or Spiderwire, but bought one spool of Berkley Nano, and love it also. Braid is not the best for everything. I seldom put a leader on my braid, and have had some on the reel for 5 years. No memory, casts well, hooksets are easy (loosen up the drag so it slips a little when you set the hook). Bad side, more expensive, although you can have it on there forever seems like, it blows in the wind easily and you will have to learn to watch the line for a "tick" on those days, but it is pretty visable, and it simply doesn't like rocks. If you have a lot of rocks a leader is a great idea. I have used it for everything from crappie to walleye & hybrids, in lake and clear creeks for smallmouth and goggle eye with no noticible loss of hits.
Guest Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 I went the cheap route. Southtown sporting goods sells their line by the yard. I kept half of my old line as backing. They wrapped 50 yards of 10 braid on the spool for me. It cost $6. Then I bought a 100yard spool of trilene 100% floro at Walmart for $10. It's the small spool that I can pack in my wading bag. I carry a sharp pocket knife when I need to cut that braid after tying the Alberto knot. For $16, I'm set for the whole year.
rps Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Not clear water? YoZuri Hybrid. Clear water? YoZuri Hybrid green.
