I'll be headed down to the Current for three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) for the first time in awhile. The plan is to take the kayak and float Tan Vat to Parker a couple times, and wade fish the other day. I know some dragging will be involved, but I don't really mind. Since I've been almost exclusively chasing smallies since about June, I don't have too much of an idea what's going on down on the Current right at the moment. So namely, if anyone has been down there, what has been hatching? I know the caddis can be coming off pretty good this time of year so I was hoping that was on.

Caddis hatch would be nice. I was at Baptist two weeks ago. Still seeing trico's in the morning. I was catching fish on a large brown Klinkhammer with a midge dropper. I/we will be down this weekend as well for the Trout Bust. Friday through Sunday for me. It is supposed to get real cold Friday night.

No idea...just have to figure it out when you get there. Trico's, BWO's, Caddis...probably still some Terrestrial action. May see you on the river on Saturday.

I doubt you have to drag much if at all. The recent rains have helped raise the river to a more normal level and added a slight tint to the water. I fished Baptist yesterday and there was a mixed bag of trico's and BWO's in the morning. There wasn't much caddis action but that could change any day now.

1.2' at Akers...64 cfs at Montauk...still really low...but up about 3.5" since last months trip. Should be fine if you pack light.

Thanks. Interesting to hear that the trikes are still out...I thought they'd be about done by now.

I'm not too worried about dragging. In a lightly loaded kayak it just takes an exceptionally low volume of flow for it to be a problem.

Was there a week ago, tricos were starting to taper off, but i did have some good luck on small blue wing olives, definitely bring some of those. Also, they seemed to be feeding a lot right below the surface, I would bring some soft hackle, they worked well for me.

I did get down there this weekend, and it was enjoyable, though not from a fishing standpoint... I won't bother with a full report, because I can summarize it in one sentence-big crowds and poor fishing. I spent the vast majority of my time hiking the trails around Parker Hollow, which given the fall colors and the crowd levels on the river really seemed the thing to do. It was like Montauk Park around Parker Hollow, where there are usually relatively few people this time of year. The cause of the crowds was apparently a benefit event, so I'm not complaining...it's purely my own poor planning. I hope everyone who was part of it had a good time and caught plenty of fish.

So long story short, I spent about 2 1/2 hours fishing over the entire weekend. An eleven inch brown trout saved me from drawing my first blank on the Current in quite awhile. I intend to get back for a real fishing trip as soon as possible.

Fishing was slow for us too...but we had a good time. Saturday AM fishing was good for some of the folks who got out before breakfast, but we didnt get to Baptist till 11am. The parking lot was packed at Baptist, and at Parker too. We ended up parking down by Schaeffer Spring. Pulled out at Schaffer around 5:30 or so. Great leaf peeping, but lots of boat traffic. My wife caught two rainbows, best around 15", One small rainbow and a 16-17" brown for me. Great time in camp with the Troutbusters.
