Tim Smith Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 MRSA contributes to or causes about 19,000 deaths in the US annually. It had shown up quite a few places before this including pets, livestock and in human populations. This is the first independent confirmation it is now occurring in wildlife. http://brooksmith.blogspot.com/2012/10/deadly-anti-biotic-resistant-bacteria.html Overuse of antibiotics especially in agriculture, is the major reason for the spread of this pathogen.
Mitch f Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 If there's one thing I learn from the Chinese it's fear of antibiotics! I only use them as a last resort "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
ness Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Every time a rabbit get's a sniffle, it's off to the doctor for an antibiotic! Seriously, this is something I've kept my eye on for years -- and I don't think it gets enough attention. Chemicals, radiation, pollution, climate change -- they're all bad things. But a breakout bacteria or virus could wipe us out. Think 1918 flu. John
drew03cmc Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Ness, I must be a bit younger than you, I don't recall 1918. Andy
