Members Pflugradt Posted October 25, 2012 Members Posted October 25, 2012 I promised my son if we had a good year with school this year and made good progress then I would let him take the fly tying class I will be teaching here shortly. After a glowing report from parent teacher conference yesterday I figured I had better get him started. We sat down last night and he learned to attach thread to a hook, the anatomy of a hook, how to whip finish, and how to attach materials with a pinch wrap. All of this took aproximately 45 minutes after which he was begging to actually tie something. So I figured we would start easy and do some ray charles. But not too easy I want him to be challenged (he responds best when his ability is tested) so he tied his first fly ever on a #16 hook. Now granted a ray charles is not exactly like tying a jock scottt for your very first fly but on a #16 I think its pretty dang impressive. Not to mention he tied an even dozen and wouldn't leave the table until they were done. So without any further delay here are my sons very first flies 6 orange with green flash and 6 olive with orange flash ray charles. To say I'm a proud papa is an understatement. Thanks for looking guys. Steve Check out my warm water flytying and flyfishing how to.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Good job Steve, to you and your boy!! Happy to read stuff like this. I would like to get into tying eventually. Just not yet..... Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
DaddyO Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Very Nice! DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Members Pflugradt Posted October 26, 2012 Author Members Posted October 26, 2012 Thanks y'all. He's been working on crackle backs the last couple days. Little more complicated but hopefully today he'll tie a really nice one. Check out my warm water flytying and flyfishing how to.
