Feathers and Fins Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I had to go to several jobs and can say I saw very few birds in OK MO and KS the Four corners areas. TONS AND TONS OF GEESE from the local giants to little squeakers few snows and specks mixed in. I wa thinking about duck hunting Saturday but is looking more like a run and gun on the geese looking for more jewlry for fun and then after some stripers and walleye. I spoke to a couple friends who hit beaver today and with the winds laid down somewhat they said the stripers were biting and they were picking up walleye to 7 pounds, Looks like our best chances in the near future for ducks is after the major front comming in Sunday. So if anyones interested my suggestion is take advantage of the massive goose numbers that seem to be comming in daily and then go fishing. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
jdmidwest Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 With this nice weather we have been having, the ducks have come to a screeching halt. Saving my days for the end ot the month, surely it will get cold and nasty sometime before season goes out. Wayne SW/MO Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 surely it will get cold and nasty sometime before season goes out. I think it has to get cold long enough to freeze over. Ducks don't care if it gets cold, but they do love water to swim in. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bird Watcher Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 So if anyones interested my suggestion is take advantage of the massive goose numbers that seem to be comming in daily and then go fishing. That's exactly what I did last weekend. Great minds think alike. I'd rather shoot geese than ducks anyway. It's all about the THUMP baby.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 So when you comming over to help me remove these pooping machines. They keep increasing in numbers and sizes are getting interesting, I saw some true QUILLS the other day and will be looking for them big time, when i saw them I already had my two and just sat there and watched them, One would be going to the taxidermist for certain, its a bucket list goose for me. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

I've only had two of them come through the spread and they both happened the same year. I think it was 2007. One landed in the hole about 20 yds. from me, but I had already limited and was sitting with a junior trying to help him get on one. I'm trying to control my voice and tell him to "shoot the one on the end with the big white stripe across his chest." He never could pick it out and ended up shooting one right in front of us as the flock started getting nervous and walking out of the spread. Coincidentally, the next flock we landed had a green neck collar in it and I couldn't get him to pick it out and shoot it either. Yeah, I would love to shoot a Quill Lake bird, but I haven't seen one in a long time. I haven't bought an Arkansas license this year. Maybe I need to get on that.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Its funny how that big white strip makes a grown man go nuts aint it lol. almost as bad as a collar. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Jeff Olson Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 what do you guys mean QUILLS ? never heard any geese called that, thanks.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Quill Lake Canada geese, they have a white breast either in a small patch or all white in some cases. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
jdmidwest Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The weather is turning Sunday night. I thinks I may be sick on Mon or Tues. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
