Members Creede Posted December 8, 2012 Members Posted December 8, 2012 I'm going to beaver lake tomorrow after work. I work in Lowell and the hickory creek ramp is the most convenient. I would like to troll for some walleye while scouting for ducks and maybe get a couple bonus geese. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Shoot the geese as you find them walleye up there might be near war eagle, havent played that far up the lake in awhile. Ducks you might see a few pets there aint many. Now monday there should be a ton https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Creede Posted December 8, 2012 Author Members Posted December 8, 2012 Thank you feathers and fins. Are you still pretty much able to drift within range of the geese or does it take some kind of game plan. And for the walleye I was going to Troll some minnow raps I havnt tried yet. Any other suggestions on what they may take.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Geese are getting hammered pretty hard upriver so im not sure, I know they have been heading out early into the farm fields in Lowell early and hanging out in them till late afternoon. There are many cacklers starting to show up and they are more leary of people then our local giants. If they do what they normally do when the migrators arrive you will need to look from Blue Springs all the way up river for the Mudflats they use and try and pattern them. I know there is a big flock of stupid birds in the back of Hickory that make perfect bow targets though. As far as the walleye up there go,Flicker shad and troll them 100ft back on 10lb florocarbon working transition banks and flats from 12 to 20 fow. Untill the shad start balling up its hard to set pattern them, Biggest reason stripers are hard to get right now is shad are thick but scattered around in the water, If they will jaust ball up in an area it would make life so much easier... The plus side though is its made bass fishing pretty fun, no set pattern other than points or breaks. Ive been picking up some real nice 3 to 5 lb bass working over the back side of wind swept areas with Flickers and Jerk baits. Be very careful water is dangerously low and its getting interesting, Ill be hanging around someplace from Prairie Creek to Rocky branch to Horsehoe Bend today lol I know big area to cover but my guts telling me stripers before the front. Ive scouted ducks and you would have a better chance at seeing pigs fly on Beaver than seeing a duck. Untill this front gets here its fishing time. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 BTW, if you do see any flying pigs, it's legal to shoot them.
Stump bumper Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 The stripers were not in PC yesterday, lots of shad but only caught one 10lb striper and a few big whites and one keeper walleye and a 6lb wiper between me and inova. The walleye came off a jerk bait trolled on a three way swivel with a one ounce weight, the striper on live bait and planner board. But it was a lot slower than the week before. Lots of small whites but looks like the big fish moved out, should move back in after the front. The loon was allover the place diving right under the boat, wish I could share information with him.
Feathers and Fins Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Im becoming very fond of that Loon, he is great entertainment. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Creede Posted December 9, 2012 Author Members Posted December 9, 2012 Just got in from my trip. I had some errands to run after work so I ended up putting in a blue springs around 230 and motoring up to war eagle marina. I trolled back here and there all the way past blue springs. Only one small striper on a fat free shad. saw a couple geese but the distance to the nearest house was questionable so I passed them up. Not the most productive trip but it was nice to get on the lake. I hadn't been out since the crappie spawn.
Members Creede Posted December 9, 2012 Author Members Posted December 9, 2012 And you were correct about the ducks. I know that's probably not the most productive area of the lake for waterfowl but I figured I would see some flying or in a yard or something. Not a single duck
chris3179 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Went hunting around the 412 area this evening, then scouted for other spots. I thought they would be ahead of the front, but I was wrong. Not a single duck. No fishing reports. Also, I have heard two different reports of tons of shooting around the 12 bridge about 10 days back? Any truth to that? Is anyone heading out tomorrow morning or later in the week? I have the new a5 I need to check out.
