Quillback Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Fished out of Jeb's boat yesterday, we fished the Rocky Branch area, fishing was slow, we managed 8 black bass and one white. Threw just about everything at them, could not find that hot bait. Anybody know what those small ducks or waterfowl that have white undersides and kind of a dark grey or black back are? Saw lots of those in the Rocky Branch area, curious as to what they are. Quite a few eagles flying around, seems to be more every year.
Stump bumper Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Were the ducks flying around staying right on the water? I saw those last week and the best I could tell they were some sort of pin tail but duck id charts did no get more detail then that and I am not sure how many ducks are classified as pin tails. Fins and feathers we could use some input here.

Feathers and Fins Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Grebes, and lots of them. Several species present, Westerns are by Redcliff and Pied billed spread all around. http://www.avianweb.com/grebes.html https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 I think we did see some grebes, but these other fowl might have been Buffleheads, I saw some today on lake Ann here in Bella Vista, and I think this is what I saw on Beaver, but they don't let you get close enough on Beaver to get a good look. Didn't know what a Bufflehead was until I looked them up today.

Feathers and Fins Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 BUFFLEHEAD GOLDENEYE RINGNECK BLUE BILL These are whats most common as far as divers in Beaver Lake. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Could've been those bluebills. I'll have to remember to bring the binocs next time I'm on the lake.
