brian prewitt75 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I am wanting to purchase a tach to hook up to my 1994 Johnson 40 hp. and become confused as I do my research. I currently have the systems check lights only and want to purchase a tach with the lights in it. Am I able to buy a tach that has the female plug/8 male pins, just unplug my current wiring from the back of the systems check instrument and plug into new tach?? I understand I will have to wire my night light. I found a digital tach only that has a 3 prong hook up but cannot find where it would plug in under my cowl. Digital tach has female boot with 3 male pins and I cannot find any male boot with female pins under cowl to hook this up. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian Spoony Slayr
fishinwrench Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 The system check harness will have the tach sender circuit (gray) in the plug, so yeah it's plug and play. I have never seen a digital SC tach. I may have a used SC analog tach. If I still have it it is white with a black bezel.

Ok from what research I had done I was thinking it was going to be easy but became confused because had heard about plugging in to the control panel on some engines. Digital tach is tach only and no SC. If you do have a tach that works and are interested in selling it Imay be interested in purchasing it. PM me please. Spoony Slayr
