Members Larry Murphy Posted October 31, 2006 Members Posted October 31, 2006 OK, I'm a rookie, but I have caught a lot if fish in my 2 trips to Taney this year. A friend turned me onto this fly, and it worked well, so I guess it's my favorite. I fished it with a 6X tippet down about 3 feet deep using a small round strike indicator. The bead is tungsten, so that was plenty of weight. Had best luck when the water wasn't running. At Bennett, this is a 60 to 80 fish per day fly....no kidding.... http://www.thetyingbench.com/recipes/fall2...ester_midge.htm What's your favorite? Post pictures or URL's please, along with how best to fish. Thanks....
Danoinark Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Larry I just tied up a couple dozen harvester midges this weekend. Its also called the Danville Midge down on the Lil Red. It's deadly there and is great on all of the White River tailwaters. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Terry Beeson Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Is there any trout water that it DOESN'T work on...? Don't know if it would be my favorite, but I do like the Disco Midge... you can find it under the '06 midge fly swap thread... Jeremy Hunt Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 That fly is like feeding candy to a baby. Trout seem to like everywhere you go. Great back up fly if it is a rough day!! jh Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog
Greg Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I've experimented quite a bit with bead head midge patterns. Different bead colors, thread color, and ribbing. That one is one of my favorites. I didn't know it was an actual established pattern though. Just goes to show you there are very few new things out there just variations on a theme. snagged in outlet 3 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Is there a specific brown color thread that is used? Thank you. SIO3
