We had about a 5ft rise in water levels overnight. Good news is the smallie fishing should get good soon and the trout will benefit as well. Bad news is I had to do a 1 am rescue on Turner road to pick up some guys who camp was flooding out at Stinking pond. They hiked through the woods until they hit the road at the top of the ridge. Rough night. We were expecting about 2 inches of rain and got between 6 and 8. It rained steady from about 11:30-am to 12:30 am. I thought we got more like 10 inches, but a friends gauge said 6. I think the river and other areas around here got more though.

Brian, sounds like a wild night, glad every body was alright. Good news otherwise bout the rain. You think even after the rain and river clears up, that the spring will return to it's green water?

Depends on how much water the spring sources gained and we won't know that for a couple days. Frankly that is not a big issue when it comes to the smallmouth, the big issue is now we will have proper water levels, at least for a while.

I have seen muddy rivers for the first time since back in the early spring. Dad is trapped in at the farm, a huge tree is across our bridge. Waiting for the water to go down so we can cut it off.

Now we need several more over the next few months to bring the water table back in line. Then a nice normal year in 2013.

Guess time will tell won't it, I know it sure looked different from last year till this rain, gin clear. Big spring at Van Buren was the same way, the river was crystal clear then that green water would mix into it, really neat looking. I heard it was flowing clear to. Have to clear my schedule when the river gets right again!!

I am ready to hit the river!

on a side note, we had to rescue some boy scouts on the buffalo, they were camped too close to the water and the river came up a few feet.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

WHERE IS STINKING POND IS IT THE DEEP HOLE ABOVE THE CEMETARY

Don't yell. Stinking Pond is a slough down river, a float camp located there.

I assume you are talking about the hole where the island splits the river below 19 access. I have called it stair step hole or boat hole. Years ago there was a lodge of sort that had a stair step leading down to it. There was also a sunken boat in it. You go down hill past the foundation remnants to the old cemetary to access the end of the island split.
