LittleRedFisherman Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Well, after our trip being canceled due to iced over roads Wendsday, my friend Chad and I finally made our trek up to the Eleven Point with the Supreme. After the big rain earlier in the week, were were thinking the water would be ready to chase some Smallmouth, and the man in the know in these parts, and a new found friend, Brian Sloss agreed. We invited Brian to join us and we met up at the ramp. He was there with about 5 or 6 guys that were going to camp out and fish the river and float down for 4 days, that's something I've got to add to my bucket list as well! So we loaded up and headed up river with flyrods in hand, and a couple spinning rods just in case. Turns out the flyrod would be the weapon of choice today. We hit on of our first holes and it didn't take long for Brian to strike first with a dandy Smallie. I have been feeling pretty good lately about my improved fly fishing skills, but having Brain in the boat swinging his flyrod soon brought a reality check to my so called skills... . We fished that spot for awhile with all of us hooking some fish, smallies and trout, you were likely to hook either at any time, that is one of the neatest things about fishing this area to me. We preceded to move up to our next spot, and bam, Chad and Brian hooked up at the same time, I was still positioning my boat, so I hadn't casted yet, about the time I casted, I hooked up, but at the same time Chad's broke his line, and Brians spit the hook, so I almost got to witness my first triple, but it wasn't to be just yet.. We fished for most of the day, but Brian had to leave a little early to take care of some business at his place, but before he left, he managed to hang the pig of the day, a 16 and a half inch smallie, and fat as a hog. I have that one on video I'll have to show later. He as well caught a dandy rainbow by a fallen tree, we didn't measure it as he took care to release it with touching it, but I'd say it was a good 16 to 17 incher. It was a treat to have Brian join us, just a great guy, and a fantastic fisherman. Chad and I decided to stay for another hour, and things heated up again as it was getting dark. Chad managed to hang 3 smallies within 10 minutes one being 16 inches and the other two around 15, I to hung a couple good ones a few more trout. Just a great day to be on the water in the Winter. I didn't take a count, but I'd say we caught around 30 smallies and trout. Here's short video of a nice smallie Brian caught! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
