jscheetz Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Ah yes, the good ole "shuffling" thread. It's kind of like getting my Log Home magazines - every couple of months they run the same articles about the same stuff! But this issue and others will continue to be debated until there is some sort of regulation passed... and then, how will it be regulated? It won't matter if it's law or not. As I have said before - I have been to Taney many, many times and have NEVER seen an agent checking licenses etc etc - so they just aren't there to enforce the laws that are already in place. If they were, I bet you would see less shuffling as well - even though it's not a regulated law - some of the people who do it would probably be nervous if game warden joe was there on the bank watching them, their conscience would be heating up on them. I know some say they are "in the bushes" but that's just silly. If they are in the bushes when I've been there they must be sleeping! As to everyone who says "well what if I am walking across the lake and sort of shuffling my feet" - silly as well - If you sit and watch someone for a few minutes you can clearly see if they are doing the Taney shuffle or not. I realize proving it in our mixed up courts would be another story - but it is pretty clear to me. But some people will always just do what they want whether it is legal, or ethical, or whatever - whether it's snagging big browns intentionally, catching fish at your feet, or chasing wolves in airplanes and then landing next to them and shooting them. Guess some just like their "sport" without having to exert a lot of skill. griffin Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Matching the hatch doesn't include white gun patches Welp, there goes the argument that you don't learn anything on these forums. It never occured to me to use a gun patch.........thanks for the pattern. I'm gonna tie some up for my next trip down. As for the buying of trout fillets in a grocery store....nobody gets mad if you do that so it ain't near as much fun. griffin

Coyotes from a helecoptor would be more to my liking. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. LostMyWife Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Boy you guys are tuff. I fished for 4 days, never lifted a foot to move, still fell three times, had fish feeding on my boots till I wanted to net them and run. Of course I didn't, but I never caught a fish either. If "shuffling" is such a sure thing I must be really bad at this fly fishin thing. Any books out there on Fly Fishin Etiquette? Yes, I'm That Guy
LostMyWife Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Boy do I feel, well, I just found this article. Stream Etiquette This a last minute entry. A fishing buddy sent me an email this morning about a trophy he caught and released over the weekend. In the note, he mentioned the lack of stream etiquette below the dam during his trip. I was up at the dam Friday morning taking pics and did see a lot of people fishing all through the wadable area. I, myself, hate to fishing in crowds and refuse to fish over weekends for that reason. For the other 90% of the workforce who have no choice when they get to fish, it is a issue. Good article, thanks Phil Live and learn Yes, I'm That Guy
NoLuck Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 You know, I usually never get in on this discussion. But after sitting thru Hunter Ed classes with a good friend I didn't really have a standpoint until recently. One of the chapters of hunter ed was about ethics. I didn't know that it was LEGAL to shoot a duck while swimming on the water.I didn't know that it was LEGAL to shoot a turkey on the roost.Ethics is defined as to how YOU see things as right or wrong.Although shooting a duck on water or shooting a big gobbler off the roost(Yet Legal)to me is wrong, some people don't see it that way. Unless there is some concrete law passed and enforced there will always be people that see things differently about shuffling.I think that we already have enough laws already to deal with. So who am I to police my piers on the water if it's not illegal? Shake your head, give them the cold shoulder, but don't be the ethics police and try to take it into your own hands.I may feel its wrong but, someone else may not.If they are breaking the Law, then by all means turn them in. Terry Beeson Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 If they are breaking the Law, then by all means turn them in. Good post, Rich. I would like to comment on the last statement, though. You may want to assess the situation before you turn them in. Give them the benefit of the doubt. At least in some situations... For example, in another thread on a different forum, there was a fisherman who came upon a couple fishing from the bank with a stringer of fish in a catch and release area. The fellow politely asked them if they realized this was a C&R area and they said that the fellow fishing there when they got there told them it was OK because the C&R rule only applied if you were wading.... When he explained differently, they happily released the fish on their stringer that would survive and moved to another spot... thanking the guy for letting them know the truth. I know ignorance of the law is no excuse... but then again, I'm not an enforcement officer either... If it's a blatant violation that is pretty obvious, then, yes... get on the phone and turn them in. gonefishin Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Uhoohhhh. Noluck and Terry. You guys are in real danger of becoming "real" people and true sportsmen. I ceremoniously salute you and using my 3ft 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 wt multi-use throw any line or fly, nymph or streamer ever built Winston Sage Orvis fast, medium slow action flyrod, that I have loved forever, tap you on each shoulder and k-night you honourable sportsmen. PS: Be warned there are some on here who would boil you in hot oil and burn you at the stake for your forgiving and live let live statements. I would rather be fishin'.
