Tfsh4bass Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Again more of the crazyness. Tfsh, the only place that I can catch them the last few days has been on pole timber. Had 8 solid keepers and 1 short yesterday after a slow start. Surface temps at Baxter when I started was 43.9. I fished long enough to see it get to close to 47, and that is when I started getting bit on the pole timber. Very nice bite with a solid bag. Not monsters, but quality 3 pound LM. Just goes to show, they are always biting somewhere. The 3 locations I caught those fish on, I had fished them earlier in the morning with no bites. Was really going to the house and saw a very nice ripple going thru the tops of the timber and said "What the Heck, I'll stop for just a minute." First cast bang! Hour and a half later I had that nice bag. Good Luck Wed I could only catch them off the first docks in pockets...only caught 7 but had some really good ones including 2 around 5lbs and I had to let jerkbait sit for 20-30 seconds and had the boat in 30ish..caught fish off 4 different docks in 4 different pockets. Sat I fished the windblown pockets and caught them very shallow (boat in 15) off pea gravel and change banks back 1/3...they really bit and I had 17 keepers with a few really good ones but the bite ended around noon for me. Sun I couldn't get bit at all and only caught 4 but all were decent on small jig flipping docks...left around 1. I fished Indian area all 3 days but fished Little Indian Wed, Main Lake pockets Sat and Big Indian Sun.

Jbrant Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 This time of year, how important is wind for the jerkbait? The last two days I've went, there hasn't even been a breeze, and I've struggled. Also, how big a role does cloudy or sunny play on those calm days?
Tfsh4bass Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 This time of year, how important is wind for the jerkbait? The last two days I've went, there hasn't even been a breeze, and I've struggled. Also, how big a role does cloudy or sunny play on those calm days? Very tough call because too much wind can be bad because it can bring cooler water into warmer pockets...at the same time wind can dirty up north pockets that warm up a little better later in the day. I like some wind but not a lot in the early spring. Table Rock is the absolute toughest for me when it is cloudy with no wind...I usually get the spinning rod out. I know a lot of people like Table Rock when it is cloudy and nasty but I actually prefer a mix of sun/clouds especially in the early spring because the bass seem to move up in the water column. Not sure where you fished but I would suggest back 1/3 of some main lake or creek short pockets with the jerkbait especially first thing in the morning and after 2.
Members tbooks Posted February 14, 2013 Members Posted February 14, 2013 Fish, Are you taking about the indian near Indian point, or the ones near Baxter?
Tfsh4bass Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Fish, Are you taking about the indian near Indian point, or the ones near Baxter? Sorry yes Indian Point area...I fish by myself a lot and the IP ramp is easy for me being solo. This time of year I fish 2-3 days per week most weeks but never go to the same spot on consecutive days regardless of how good I catch them. From that ramp I can basically cover 86 to Cow without burning too much gas.
