buzzbaitr Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I love Stockton but only get to fish it a couple times a year. I am coming down with a buddy on Wednesday anyone have any bass info? Stay towards the dam or the lower part of the lake? Just trying to get a little info if anyone has any.
Jbrant Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Probably going down Tuesday or Wednesday too. I haven't seen a whole lot of info on Stockton other than what is posted on this site.
buzzbaitr Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 I have had very limited success. I learned to throw a jerk bait on Stockton so I am hoping to go improve on that skill. I love the lake, one of my favorites.
Lifes2Short Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I would stay on the main lake, pending on the wind direction I would launch at State Park or at Old State Park. From there I would fish main lake points that have deeper water on them. Slow moving jerkbaits, test a variety of colors, and small finess jigs fishec slowly in some type of green color should be the ticket. If you have wind blowing onto a point don't hesitate to pitch that jerkbait right into the waves & froth. It's going to be a cold week so don't move your baits too fast, the bass will just watch your bait go by................. Good luck, keep us posted on your success!
buzzbaitr Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Thanks for the advice. This is my first fishing trip of the year, tomorrow can't go by fast enough. I just bought my first mega bass jerk bait, excited to see how it does.
Walcrabass Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 BuzzBaiter, We have had some success on Jerkbaits and Jigs. The Jerkbaits are 6 to 10 foot suspenders. Just a little twitch twitch and pause. When you go to pull again they are just on it. The fish are pretty bleached out. We have been using Finnesse style and Lion Head Jigs. They are small in profile but have used 3/8 and 1/2 oz to combat the wind sail in our lines to feel a hit. If your Finnesse Jigs are too bulky just pull a few strands. Keep the color of the Jig and the trailer kind of light. Maybe Light Brown, Watermelon, etc. Hopefully have some contrast in the rig to get some attention. Use some Craw Scent....you'll need all the help you can get. 4 pounds or so is our biggest but most fish have been running right at 15"
buzzbaitr Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Thanks for the details. Are u guys catching them off bluffs or points or both?
Dutch Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 You might want to check and see how much snow falls overnight.
Walcrabass Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Buzzbaitr, Only on points. Can't even find one on a good log/brush pile. Also, Ditto on the snow. The weather could really shut them off. Also could help you to put the boat AND the truck in the lake at the ramp.
buzzbaitr Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 Well unfortunately I don't get to even go tomorrow! My buddy's boat had to go into the shop and won't be our until next week. Disappointed doesn't quite describe howiI feel at the moment.
