Down Imaging ?

I want to sit in one spot & target fish under my bow & see my jig moving up & down. Is this possible with a Down Imaging locator ? So far all I understand is I have to be moving 8 mph. What type unit is best for sitting still ?

I think your 8 mph info is not good info. I use down imaging all the time on my trolling motor. Sitting still you won't have the same images as moving just like on 2d sonar. I don't want to start a Ford/Chevy discussion so I recommend that you look at some at BPS in Springfield or Council Bluffs and talk to the guys at the electronics counter.

^{Thanks, I will do that. When I was ide fishing with some guys, one had a portable sounder that showed the bait & fish comming up to get it. "Winkiedoodles" on youtube has some Table Rock videos he using a unit & sits on top of the fish like that.. I need more info}

I use down imaging all the time from sitting still to drifting and have no issues at all. kinda fun watching a fish come up and take your bait.

thanks f&f for the info looking to upgrade not a big checkbook thinking about 581i at bp was wondering if you could see your bait when drop shoting as i do on my current lowrance i know it can be a loaded question but any opion is better then none to starty thanks

Yes I can on both my 7 and 5 with no problem. set your setting back to the old black n white ( original lowrance ) look and its very sweet.
