Seems so many people have to have the $25 and up jerk baits to fish a jack pot around here, just watched Jason Christie catch a 4lb bass in the Bassmaster Classic with a $5 Rouge. Don't those pros know anything... :secret-laugh: You can't catch fish with old baits, they don't work anymore.....

I heard that. They said the Smithwick Rouge was sold out the next day and that the Vision 110 wasn't as effective there. I like the strike King KVD myself. Tried it today but no luck. Action is like jerk bait on crack. All over the place and erratic. Good looking bait IMO. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Are the Smithwick rogues decent? I bought a retired bass fishermans gear and have about 30 of them. Haven't fishes with them, I am going to give them a shot tomorrow. He even had the ones with the two weights on the lip. Any idea on the depth these go to?

Each one must be left to sink/float/hold and each needs to be fished. I bet most will be great.

There is nothing wrong with a cheap bait. Wiggle Warts are 3.99 at Walmart yet catch TONS of fish for me each year. Same thing goes for the fat Albert grub or swimming minnows for crappie and white bass. I love my megabass but there is a place for cheap baits that work.

Chris,

If they are the "OLD" style of Rouges ... you will need some "suspend dots" to balance each one where you want it to suspend.

I have 4 of the "OLD" one and they suspend different in different lake.. not much but different.....

Was that interview on the pod cast or ESPN show, Day 1, Day2 or 3? I was only able to get through about half of Day 1 since competitive fishing puts me to sleep but still have them on DVR and would like to see that part.

Sure there is a high price "pro" model to follow.......

There is now and Christie is on Smithwick's pro staff. It is suspose to suspend at 9ft. I believe. It is somewhat like the old spoonbill rogue that folks used to use a ton of. It also has a casting system like the other big boys and a weight system.

As far as the Jerkbaits, most every pro has a sponsorship by someone and represents that brand. Just about every stickbait is customized somewhat out of the box by every pro that fishes it. Don't know how much better it makes it, but if you feel better about it you will fish it longer and fish it better.

Most all these guys, reguardless who they represent, still have lots of custom painted rogues in there boxes. They are as much a novility as a Super Fish ketcher.

You can bet Christie has a huge box of custom painted ones.

Good Luck
