Members CanoeBoy Posted March 6, 2013 Members Posted March 6, 2013 The water is still cold, but any thoughts on how to catch some fish this weekend at the Rock. Its suppose to be in the 60's. We will enjoy the lake either way, but some fish would be nice! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sprint21fter Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 By the weekend with the temps going to be as warm as they say it will fish one of the river arms with a crankbait in any orange or chartruese color so the fish can see it with the stained water. Find any chunck rock banks and go to casting.
ryan Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Not any real giants but I've been catching some wiggle wart fish mine are all coming off pea gravel banks with a little softball size rock mixed in. Transitions are key areas, midway back in creeks and pockets keep it slow and on the bottom. Parallel the bank and just keep going, we found them in little groups, catch one and catch two or three more in the same area.
Bill Babler Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Ryan, what temp water have those wart fish been comming from? I threw it today in Long Creek for about an hour on 46.2 degree water on just that kind of stuff with a little wind. Looked great, but narry a nip. Thanks for the info. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
ryan Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Water temp was 43-45 degrees fishing it Dave Barker style like you were just crawling it across the bottom. My partner caught them better than I on the old brown orange craw, I caught them on natural brown craw putting a suspending dot in front of front hook, don't know if it makes a difference but does help me keep it on the bottom fishing slow. Long creek was a Gar hole for me the last couple weeks. I concentrated on the back half of pea gravel pockets with chunk rock mixed in. A little bit of stain in the water helped me get bit, finding that in the back of some of the bigger feeder creeks. They had started to cool down with the cold weather and snow melt but should be warming back up! Should get good in the next few day. I'm off to Greers Ferry lake for some grocerys (walleye)!
ryan Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Once these K's decide to move up you should be able to wreck em on a grub, that bite may heat up by this weekend as well. I hope you guys catch them good!
Bill Babler Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 For sure give us a report on your walleye deal Tks BB Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
