I fished from early (way too early) until right after daybreak this morning - mostly on either side of the 76 bridge near Shadow Rock Park. I fished the mouth of Swan and didn't pick up anything - but both rocky banks downstream of the bridge have Walleyes cruising the shore (including the WIllow Bank Phil has the picture of in another post) - I only caught smaller males but the fish are there. I did best on slowly retrieved jerkbaits - not twitched and paused but reeled in slowly and steadily like a crank but with the rod tip held high so they didn't dive too deep. I did catch one small White on a Berkley "Sick Fish" swimbait - but didn't get a big 'Eye to nail it like I thought might happen. Best jerkbait was a Clown XRap 10.
Rainy and a little lightning but didn't see another fisherman until right after daylight.

I almost went down there this morning, but I was up to late from being down there last night. I was worried this front might have affected the bite, but apparently not. You did a lot of moving around to cover all those spots before it got light.

I'd say that was a very good try... one of those trips that "should have been better". My last 2 trips to BS were strike outs too. Just means it'll be better next time!

I started right after 4:00 A.M. - Plenty of time. I'll be sacking it early tonight, for sure.

I thought it would be the trip where I get the double-digit Walleye, but not this time. I keep getting better and better fish on swimbaits, but this wasn't the trip for them I guess.

I respect your goal. You will make it happen, but it may be like it was for me ... outside the box in July.

Chase them buggers at night long enough and passionately enough, and your own eyes will begin to glow.

Comes in handy for those late night trips to the john, but tends to eliminate second dates...

Keep at it. All but one of my 10+ came at night.

I can't dance like I used to.

I really, really like this post.

I've wandered around the pothole for a long time and there is no doubt in my mind that dark is the key. I don't do well there, or see a lot of eyes caught because I don't like fishing the dark and I leave early.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
