Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 21, 2013 Root Admin Posted March 21, 2013 I hear good stories, people catching fish different places, but this guy hasn't connected yet. Got to remember, it's early. It's cold. Water is cold and... it's early. It's always exciting to hear the successful stories but if you're like me, you start chasing stories and get crushed most of the time by missing it. Pretty typical early season for me so far. I did connect on crappie early (Table Rock) but haven't done much so far at Bull. That's fishin'!
Dutch Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 You should have been there today. It was so windy you couldn't get a bait down on most banks. It was also very cold and nasty. I managed some whites but fished from just below the 76 bridge to below Cedar Creek and up in Beaver to the second bend. The wind was really howling just below Fish Trap Shoal down to the Hayward Slough.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 That's true Phil. Last year the water was warmer and the ambient higher, but the whites still didn't really get going until the end of the month. If a person is into walleyes I suspect fishing the upper areas after dark would be worth while though. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
vacation Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Phil, I have been twice in two weeks, each time catching one or two fish. I am going again either Friday night or Saturday b/c its gonna happen sometime. Grandpa always said, you cant catch anything if your lines not in the water. I'l text you if I start catching. Jim
Members Scott Keling Posted March 21, 2013 Members Posted March 21, 2013 I caught a limit of whites Monday, Tuesday& Wednesday. All in the same area between the Gillis hole & the Johnson hole. All but a couple were caught on a A-rig. It was about the only thing to throw in that wind. Saw some others in the area catching some, throwing the same thing. Water temp 47 to 49.
Members chad 417 Posted March 22, 2013 Members Posted March 22, 2013 I caught 3 walleye last friday night at the pothole, only 2 were keepers the biggest 20 in. sadly that's a good night for me. that was my 4th trip this late winter, first time to connect.

I would have to say I would be very happy with catching 2 keeper walleye and another short. I went 7 consecutive days last week and tried many different spots with different techniques and only managed to bring home 1 keeper walleye along with those ugly white bass that everybody loves, lol. I think a morning trip is in order because I've either had bad luck or had bad technique lately. Thanks for posting.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 22, 2013 Author Root Admin Posted March 22, 2013 This is just me.. I don't want to throw the A-Rig. I'm the type person who would rather catch fish MY way or not catch any at all. I like throwing jigs, swimming minnows, a small sluggo and a rebel. An occasional rattle trap but that's the biggest lure I'll throw. Not knocking the A-Rig. Glad you're catching them.
Members Scott Keling Posted March 23, 2013 Members Posted March 23, 2013 Yeah I'll agree with ya Plil. I'd much rather catch'm on swimming minnows. But I live in north Missouri & it was a 3 day trip. I LOVE eating white bass. Not frozen fish sticks.
Members whitebassman Posted March 23, 2013 Members Posted March 23, 2013 Phil, I'm with ya on that one. I can catch just as many on the ole slider as they can on the a-rig. Try down there just beloww cedar on that flat that runs out in the lake, I've been catching some really big whites down there. Hoping to go as soon as this snow gets gone!
