Members Calwood kid Posted March 21, 2013 Members Posted March 21, 2013 Im fairly new to the area and the forum. I grew up in north central mo fishing the rivers and creeks up there, got pretty good at it, and am looking to do the same down here. I've learned how to find the smallies and kentuckies in the James without much problem. But, I keep seeing that guys are getting into some crappie on the James. I'm getting pretty interested in the whites too. My question is, how is the crappie& white bite up around Delaware town? I'm able to fish other/lower sections of the river, but Delaware town is closest to my house. Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys
ozarkgunner Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 There are no fish in the James. Only cotton mouths and Rabid otters. Angler At Law
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Kid do some searching about Blunk on the James. It's below Galena, but accessible. Where did you grow up? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Calwood kid Posted March 21, 2013 Author Members Posted March 21, 2013 Wayne- thanks. My buddy and I have heard about that hole and were talking about it yesterday actually. I grew up in Fulton. Graduated there in '03. Family has a farm NE of Fulton about 8 miles, just outside calwood. The auxvasse creek runs through about 2 miles of our place. Decent smallmouth in the right places. more largemouth and kentucks though. More stained water, good flathead. The auxvasse flows into the Missouri river about 10 miles below our place. Our area is better known for its deer than its bass, in my opinion. Thanks for the info I'll have to check that out a soon as I can.

That actually sounds like fun during a nice June day.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 They also reach Galena some years and you can access the river at the Cox public access. It's just above the old Y bridge that leads to Galena. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Thanks guys Although there are sporadic whites and crappie around Delaware Town, they are pretty non-existent and not even worth trying to catch in that area. Like was already said, to go down around the Galena area of the James river will be productive when they're there. If you're interested in going that far, I'm sure someone on here will give you detailed instructions on how to drive down there. But just be warned. You will be fishing with lots of other people, because when they're biting, everybody will be there.
Members Calwood kid Posted March 22, 2013 Author Members Posted March 22, 2013 Thanks again. In familiar enough with the area and have enough local buddies to go down to galena the next time I get a chance and try and snag a few. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Nearly lost it from laughing. There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind. ~Washington Irving
duckydoty Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Usually the 1st week of April is the best time to hit the Blunks hole and Taylor shoals area. Less crowds early in the morning (3 am). I have have fished the place all to myself during violent thunderstorms. Something about lightning cracking everywhere and straight line winds usually runs people off. Another good trick is to get down there about 4 pm and start grilling chicken wings, ribs and hamburgers. That usually clears out a few spots from the fellas that have been at it all day. Sends em home hungry. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
