Members BHowe Posted March 22, 2013 Members Posted March 22, 2013 Crappie is heating up, I just with the weather was:) My son and I went out yesterday during the snow and caught a bunch. We were fishing in deep water (28-38') but only 10 to 12' down. Seems like they wanted it on a faster retrieve as well. Believe it or not, we pretty much had the lake to ourselves:)
duckydoty Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Sounds like you had a good time. Gotta love how fowl weather thins the crowds. Looks like someone was fishing with the short stick? A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
laker67 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 good report. looks like big island in the background. A neighboor and I each caught a limit in about a 4 hr time period yesterday. We fished the dock, water is 18, and we caught everything at 11 and 12. Going to try the long rod today prior to the next big snow event that is rolling in tonight. The shad and seagulls were out in force yesterday afternoon. I would suspect the big blues would be close behind. Wood ducks are starting to nest, and the crappie are bulging with eggs. Don't have a clue as what the water temps are, but I would suspect "cold". Seems to be progressing into a normal spring routine, unlike last year.
duckydoty Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Good report Rick. Getcha some on that long rod! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
laker67 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Hi Duane, ifn they start to bite, you and Micheal need to come on down. You can bring that girl along provided that she doesnt outfish us again.

We might just have to take you up on that. The only way to guarantee she does not out fish us it to tape one arm behind her back. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! laker67 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 A blindfold on while she is trying to find the dock might help.
laker67 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 The neighbor came by about 10:30, so I sent him on to the dock while I finished a quick honey do. Grabbed the long rod and headed to the dock about 30 minutes later. He had already caught 9 good fish. It was like someone had turned a switch off. We fished another 2 hrs and caught one small dink. I tried again about 3:00, fished an hour and a half, no bites, no seagulls, no shad, no fish. About seven this am it started snowing hard. Lots of accumulation already. At this rate it will be a$$ deep to a tall indian by noon. No offense meant Chief. The snow is heavy and hanging on trees and power lines, with the wind I am concerned about power outages. If bHowe is on the lake today, his boat will fill with snow in short order. Everyone be safe if you are out and about.
Members BHowe Posted March 25, 2013 Author Members Posted March 25, 2013 lake67, Had to take a break over the weekend. If the wind wasn't so bad you can bet we would have been after them. Duckydoty, he managed to break his brand new rode setting the hook. I reckon it was just a weak spot on the rod. He caught several that day and it broke that evening. But, we took it back to Van Hooks and Bobby swapped it out for us no questions asked.....Good feller. Maybe this weather will settle down a bit and we can get after them again soon
Members BHowe Posted April 8, 2013 Author Members Posted April 8, 2013 My son and I went out yesterday and targeted some of those MDC crappie beds. We were casting to within a few feet of the bank and catching them in 6' to 12' of water pretty regular. I hope the weather holds up, it's gonna get good
