grizzly Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I have fished Taney quite a few times. The drive from Harrisonville keeps me away from it more than I like, but I do venture down to crane and taney about 5-6 times a year. I went down this last weekend and was royally skunked on Taney with it generating a unit I was wondering what the local experts are using rig-wise when there is a unit to one-half unit running and you are limited to wade fishing. I tried my "river rig" and was ticking bottom with a scud dropper hanging about a foot and a half from a midge emerger with a BB or two weight on the line, yet still nothing. Is there something I am missing? Any tips would be appreciated. BTW, willing to trade tips on Crane over a PM message for help. Sam.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Sam - I think you are doing everything right... maybe you should look into the river more... with your polarized glasses... find the feeding lies / and lanes. Also - the scuds in Taney can be huge... so I suggest a scud then the midge dropper rig, and you have to vary the length from your indicator depending on the current and water level. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
luckycraft Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 When water is generating, I look for a bend to where the water is slower and focus on that area as fish tend to stack. I am a wooly bugger and streamer fisherman as I have been taught by a fellow forumer. I did watch a guy catch fish after fish after fish on a midge, although I couldn't do it. I did catch fish my way though on 1 unit of generation.
duckydoty Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 It can be tough to fish with one unit running. Less options for wading. You will have to concentrate on the little seams and eddies. I really like fishing along the bank below outlet 2 with one or two units on. You have to use quite a bit of weight to get your flies down. If you see a feeding lane, work it.
