I would only say that typically these fish in shallower water will rise to a dry fly. There's really no more lovely way to catch a trout. I think it was Ted Leeson who wrote that for some fly fishing becomes something like a religion and like all religions its meaning derives from a central miracle: the rise of a trout to a dry fly.

So before I brought out the San Juan worms, Wooly Buggers and other such power-bait flies I might give it a try with a lot of stealth and some elk hair caddis, royal coachman, orange humpy. You might find, like I have, that you'd as soon catch some medium sized CC fish on a dry as more or larger fish on San Juans and Wooly Buggers.

No insult meant to other religions (or not much)...but I think you should at least give my creed a try.

Ok, open the flood gates of opprobrium. (But don't bother telling me I'm an unforgivable and unrepentant snob. I already know that...)

Fished crane yesterday afternoon, a heavy power bait fly in black worked great(wooly bugger)

Landed 6 nasty little trout in a little over an hour, water is in fine shape, good flow, didn't see any

trout rising, but if they had been I would have thrown a parachute # 14 Adams first.

Snakes are getting more active, saw a lot of them hanging in bushes, sunning.

Thanks guys! I'll be headed there this Saturday for a day of fishing so I'm starting to get excited. It's looking like I'll tie up some general nymph patterns and some dries, I'm not a big one to fish dries when there's much more subsurface action going on. We'll see how the trip pans out. I'll probably pack some Wooleys and stuff, though they will be a fall back. I like the pine squirrel leech more than a wooley bugger more lately. And I hope to see some snakes as well! I'm looking to get a bar/pole/extension fabricated to use with my gopro that I can get some close up shots of some snakes with out getting too close! Thanks for the info guys! And if anyone has anything else to add don't hesitate! nw
