Members timr0123 Posted March 27, 2013 Members Posted March 27, 2013 I have to admit there's one technic I've never exploited for spring bass and it is fishing a grub. I have fished small grubs for years for crappie and whites, but have never used them for bass. I know that you guys talk about whacking them on a smoke colored grubs on here, so I'd figured I better get on board. What style and size is best and what colors besides smoke should I use. Thanks, Tim
ozarkgunner Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 4 inch smoke or green fat Albert by zoom on a 3/16 darter head Angler At Law
Members timr0123 Posted March 27, 2013 Author Members Posted March 27, 2013 Thanks Gunner. I was actually just looking at the Fat Alberts on BPS website. I have darter heads, so that's taken care of. What's the best way to fish them?
ozarkgunner Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Slow as you can reel them on the bottom. Too slow they hang up. I also use Yamamoto grubs. Angler At Law
Members timr0123 Posted March 27, 2013 Author Members Posted March 27, 2013 Thanks again Gunner. I'm ordering some now. We are going down to Bull Shoals in two weeks for our first ever spring fishing there and we'll see what happens. I've been fishing Grand and Table Rock for years and finally decided to drive the extra hour and a half the see what Bull Shoals has to offer.
ozarkgunner Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Bull shoals hates me for some reason. Angler At Law
Members timr0123 Posted March 27, 2013 Author Members Posted March 27, 2013 Gunner, hate is such a strong word. lol. But I will have to admitt I've said that, and a few other choice words, after making a 1000 cast on the Rock and not scoring a keeper.
Members timr0123 Posted March 27, 2013 Author Members Posted March 27, 2013 Hang on, they have single tail and twin tail Fat Alberts. Which works better?
SRV1990 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 My best luck has always come on the single tail, but I usually use the 5". In addition to the darter heads I've also use ball-head jigs with good success. Tom "You can always justify putting off a decision... but you can't put off the results of indecision."
abkeenan Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Single tail 5" Kalin's grub. Don't really use anything else except the occasional 4" Zoom Fat Albert in watermelon. Kalin's Clear Salt and Pepper has been a standby in my family for about 15-20 years now.
